There are apparently some Brian Burke to NY rumors on Toronto radio

Thoughts? Hasn't Sather been considering stepping down?
Quote:
TSN also reports that Burke is essentially a free agent and able to talk to other teams as of today, which leads me to believe he will not finish the season in Anaheim.

The Rangers are being rumoured as another possible destination on local radio, but the consensus is that Burke could step into the Toronto job at any time now.

Doubt it. I believe Slats and Burke are friends and I'd say it's unlikely Burke steps in to take over his job.

On the other hand, business is business.

Why would it make it less likely for Burke to take over if the two of them are friends? I'm saying this under the assumption that Sather was already planning on stepping down...

The Rangers are ALWAYS mentioned when someone in pro hockey becomes 'available'

Why even speculate, I thought it was common knowledge that he would take over at the Leafs?

Sather has put together a good team since the lockout and has gotten us to the Playoffs 3 years in a row. Hopefully he's not going anywhere.

Under that assumption I suppose it's more likely. I skimmed over the part about "Sather stepping down" so I guess it's feasible.

I haven't heard anything about Sather stepping down, but I'm not sure whether or not I'm a Burke fan. Those antics between him and Lowe are childish, but then again, he might bring a Steinbrenner-esque vibe to the franchise. I bet NY would love that.

This. Ever since the cap was in place, Slats has done a great job. Let him stay until Messier is ready to take over

Is it possible to have even ONE rumor that's doesn't try to connect itself with the Rangers somehow?

It was more likely Don Maloney was the result of the team's success. After he leaves we throw it 7+ million contracts to guys who dont deserve it. and Another pair of $6+ million contracts to defenders who dont deserve it. Now were in cap hell. YAY! Ill give him credit for the Zherdev trade though.

As far as I can tell, Slats has won every trade since the lockout (and before).

In addition - although it's early yet - you have to give him credit for the 2008 draft, where all of the prospects are currently meeting or exceeding (and in two cases drastically exceeding) expectations.

To be honest I give Sather the least credit for our turnaround. I think Maloney and Renney had more to do with it than Sather. I really do think Slats should step down as GM and just be President and let someone else do the GMing. C'mon lets not forget all the stuff that happened before the lockout. Sather was one of the most hated managers in the game by his own fanbase. I have never heard a crowd call for a managers name before at a hockey game to be fired. The guy hasn't won anything in close to 20 years! Talk about making a living on your past, damn.

Agreed.

And now they are supposedly ready to ship Ryan out, too.

Sather is doing a fine job, and assured this organization's future.

Yea, he was bad in the non cap era, since the rebuild this team has tried to get the right players every off season. Players that fit into the system we have. Hes also made some good trades in the past 3 years.

Sather gets the most credit from me for the turnaround.

The Stanley Cup banner hanging from the rafters of the Honda Center certainly tempers that blow...
