So why do you think it would be such a problem to keep him? This team is not build around Upshall. Flyers still have Giroux and JVR.

Well, I believe we still have Parent if Ossi decides to walk. Why do you think it will be a problem to keep him? Were there any reports?

You do know that Atlanta is rebuilding again. So what makes you think they will trade for Briere and give up

Atl gets
briere
nitty
jones
sj/cgy 3rd

Philly gets
little
pavelec
salary

O yeah, one more thing.. Habs do not have cap space for Briere.

this thread is ****ing stupid.

i never said keeping upshall would be a problem just will require a little more money for his raise. there isnt a problem with keeping coburn but having the money for his extension is a smart idea. and i said we only needed one dman for next year preferable a komisarek type. coburn timmo sbisa parent and carle. i think vanny was just a one year guy.

No dice on those trades.

IMO Nodl will be untouchable by season's end.

If Briere was actually going to be traded, he's going to command a lot less coming back than what a lot of us think. His salary, combined with hypothetical/logical decline throughout his contract is the main detractor. Not to mention his injury history does come into play, though not as much as the contract itself.

Bearing this in mind, I don't find either to be "fleecing" or vaseline-intensive. In fact, if you posted these trades in the main forums, with a lesser biased audience, I can guarantee there will actually be quite a few saying the other teams are getting the worst of it. Whether or not that's true is simply how one values the assets.

We would be trading in order for some cap space, no team in their right mind will overpay well-knowing our intentions.

So I guess at least that leaves Florida or Columbus as possibilities

I would go off on a little rant but i think Kaktus has done a good job putting this child-like thought to rest.

Briere is not a bad hockey player, hes the best player we have on the team for what he does...put points on the board.

How does trading a legit 1st line center and a backup goalie for a legit 3rd line center and a backup goalie a fair deal?

Why would Montreal want Briere, you just said how useless he is yet they would want him tying up more cap space that they dotn have?

The ONLY way I can see something like this happening is if this team continues to slide and they find themselves in 10th place or worse at the all start break. At that point I would seriously start shopping Briere to relieve some cap spcae and build for the future ebcause if by then this team isnt playing good then maybe this team just isnt gelling like we all thought but at this point we're a long way off and we're 1 game under .500 after a brutal schedule and start to the season.

if we could get someone like, say, komisarek for briere, i'd be tempted

i was probably the least supportive of briere when we signed him and i still don't really like him, but i've eaten crow since last season. he has been an important member of this team and i don't see us trading him this season. richards and carter wouldn't be where they are without briere manning that top line. the guy is an offensive threat and he can make our myriad wingers better. unless someone overpays for him, this is the kind of player you need in order to win.

Is it time to close it so people will stop saying how idiotic these trade proposals are? Champs in 08, let me tell you to do some research. Actually, dont do that. Just use common sense and logic when coming up with these dumb proposals.

Well you asked for everyone's reply and 99.9% of us think the trade is ridiculous, so we are posting here. Some people are actually questioning if you meant it or not...
