Is this the year Iginla becomes the greatest Flame ever?
So I was looking at the Flames all-time scoring statistics. And I was thinking, what does Iginla have left to prove he is the greatest Flame ever?
After this year I think he should have moved clear of Fleury. However, is this the year that Iginla also moves past Al MacInnis for good? Iginla is already the Flames leader for Goals and Games Played and after this year (touch wood) will become the top point producer (he needs 62 to pass MacInnis for second and 70 to pass Theo) and should be closing on the top 3 in assists (and also closing on top ten in PIM )
So I guess the question is, how much more does Iginla need to do to prove he had a better career (as a Flame) than MacInnis?
A cup. I don't care if he gets Conn Smythe or not, he just has to help us win a cup.
Yup. Back in '04, there was all that talk about "Messier-type leadership." The phrase hasn't been uttered since. He's got the individual accomplishments and awards, gold medal, THN #1 ranking, respect from other players and fans, but this is what's missing.
It could be the year based on his great start with the flu but added to that are much higher quality line mates such as Bert, Cammy and now Boyd. I would rather a cup than 100 points but what the heck I will go for both.
