Ehrhoff emerging star?

I know it's early but at 26 looks to finally be putting it all together.

18GP 2G 15Pts and counting
20 minutes a game all situatons

One of the fastest skaters in the league too. He looks amazing whenever I watch the Sharks.

Wasn't he a healthy scratch for quite a few games last year too? Nice to see that he's rebounded pretty well.

He is by far the most skilled and most complete defenseman on the Sharks, and he's rebounded from a bad offensive season to put up the type of numbers we've expected from him.

I think you're thinking of Carle. Ehrhoff played 77 games last year.

IMO, he is our best defensive d-man, the 15 points (3 assists tonight) are gravy.

most complete (by far)? Yes, you could call it by far...

most skilled (by far)? Definitly not. I would go as far as saying he isnīt even the most skilled, that goes to Boyle...

Always been a huge fan of his. A cousin of his was a foreign exchange student when I was in high school. Anyways followed him ever since. I would argue that Pickles might beat him out as the best Defensive D. I would say that Ehrhoff is THE best 2 way d on the sharks. Top 10 in the NHL. Within the first 18 games, but I don't think it will drop off.

Yea and the reason he missed games late in the season was due to an injury.

Changing his stick, the new system & Boyle/Blake have really helped him step it up to where he should be.

I see.. I obviously dont watch the Sharks as much as you do, but I always notice how good Vlasic is defensively when I do watch them.. Guess I have to pay more attention to Erhoff next time

Vlasic is one of the best in the league at pokechecking and is exceptionally sound positionally. But Ehrhoff is so fast that he makes it look easy. He is also much more difficult to move off the puck than Vlasic. It isn't a bad 1-2 punch, but I take Ehrhoff- there is a great deal of debate on the sharks board regarding this however.

Ehrhoff plays a better physical game as well.

Ehrhoff has 15 points in 18 games. Vlasic has 8 points in 18 games. Vlasic has a slight edge in defensive skill, but Ehrhoff has better speed and physicality to go with much better offensive skills that I think put the weight in his favor.

Both still make the occasional gaffs, so I would rate them even there. Ehrhoff is the most-rounded D-man on the team, in that he does nearly everything well. He blocks shots, he passes well, he carries the puck well, his shot is now much better, his speed is incredible, his defense is actually quite good, and he also generally plays with a bit of an edge. He's not a fighter, but he won't back down and he's able to irritate a lot of opposing players.

Both are great young D-men...But I agree with Matt Trick on taking Ehrhoff over Vlasic. But here's the scary thought.. as great as the Sharks defense is now.. in 2 or 3 years it should be even better. By then Ehrhoff and Vlasic should be hitting their peaks, they will still have Boyle and Murray (probably), and they will have likely added at least Petrecki and possibly another young guy like Braun.

Ehrhoff has been the best Sharks D-man so far, with Boyle not far behind. I think he will turn into a real star. The guy plays in every situation too.

Ehrhoff was definitely a healthy scratch last year for at least 1 game near the beginning of the season. I know, because I had him on my fantasy team and watched him like a hawk.

He was a healthy scratch once last year, 11/3 against the Kings.

And, yes, he has become what we all saw glimses of in the past. Going to be a star.

I always liked him, wanted the Habs to snag him when his value wasn't too high. But Doug Wilson is smarter than that. Is he using that booming shot of his at all? I assume he's on the 2nd unit PP because of Boyle and Blake?

Vlasic's problem is that he is still too weak and is easy to push around. He still has some filling out to do, which is understandable considering how young he is.

Ehrhoff used to scrape the rafter with his backswing. Now, he just brings it to about parallel with his shoulder. His accuracy is about 75% better and really didn't lose much velocity.

As far as PP units, last night the ice time was pretty much as usual: Blake and Boyle were 1 and 2, and Vlasic and Ehrhoff were 3 and 4 for ice time. However, McLellan mixes and matches those 4 quite a bit: Ehrhoff's PP assist occured when he was with Blake.

So far:

Boyle-93 power play minutes
Vlasic-73 power play minutes (expect that to do down)
Blake-70 power play minutes
Ehrhoff-51 power play minutes (Expect that to go up)
