A Trade that hurt both teams

Looking back

did the trade Drury-Morris hurt both teams?

I think they should have reverse the deal

Maybe but Jagr to the Caps was the worst. Jagr killed two teams in one fell swoop. Now they are both vying for the worst record in the league....

Drury turned into Reinprecht and Warrener though - is that a bad thing?

I was just about to say that. I don't think that Drury-Morris deal hurt the Flames at all. Losing Morris was tough to swallow but Drury was then flipped for Reinprecht and Warrener. You can ask any Flames fan, they would take those two over Drury and probably over Morris. Morris has been replaced in the lineup by Leopold and Warrener has become the veteran rock that they defence needed. Reinprecht has been hurt but if healthy, would produce at the same level as Drury. Everything considered, I really don't see how you can say that the Drury-Morris deal hurt the Flames at all.

ACTUALLY we lost Morris but we got back Warrener, Rhino AND YELLE. Yelle has been huge for this team!

The trade worked out fine for Calgary.. They got Yelle, Rhino and Warraner and also got Mcammond back. Thats much much better than Drury.

Avs are right at the top of the Western Conference, geared up perfectly for a Cup run once again.

Calgary is headed toward their first playoff spot in nearly a decade.

That deal had a direct and indirect effect on the above.

So no, it hurt no one.

That is, if one is looking at results.

ive always thought drury/ morris was better for the avs. i think people overated drury here, and the avs needed a young top d-man. i think the avs got the worse end of yesterdays trade. i didnt like it with morris alone - let alone throwing in ballard.

I think the deal hurt Colorado more than most people think. First of all MCAmmond was a bust and he got traded back. But the Avs are really missing Drury, especially this year. They've been shutout atleast 3 times that i can remember watching. probably more. Drury was always clutch. He was one of the Avs "Wing killers." Whenever no one else could score for the Avs, Drury could always pull a goal out of his @$$.

I'm really puzzled how anyone could think the Morris-Drury deal hurt the Flames?

Flames have Warrener and Yelle --arguably the team's 2 most effective players (as judged by the team's record when they are out of the lineup) not named Iginla or Kiprusoff, plus Reinprecht

Flames are enjoying their best season in 10 years

Leopold has scored as many goals this year as Morris ever did as a Flame, add in Ramholt and Phaneuf and Flames have about 10 solid D under 30

Morris meanwhile has been traded again

I liked Derek Morris ALOT, but I can't see how this deal hurt us?

thats why i think he was overated. he ALWAYS tried to score the highlight goal all by himself. 3/4 times a season - he would do it and everyone would say what a clutch player he was. the rest of the time he was kind of puck hog, always trying to pull the puck through a d's legs. people always look back and say we need that now - but i disagree. i think its the same thing as people thinking the avs shouldve never traded ricci. you cant pay a third liner 3-5 mill a year, and they got tanguay out of it. drury's money would ve been too much for another forward-so they spent that money on an equally clutch d. morris almost outscored drury last year as a defensemen, and suprisingly had just as many if not more gamewinning goals. its a myth that the avs miss drury-i think the miss deadmarsh more. i also think knonwalchuk is a better fit for the avs than drury ever was.

Anyone that thinks the Flames were hurt by this deal needs to get their head checked out.

Morris, Shantz, Begin & a pick

FOR

Reinprecht, Warrener & Yelle

The Flames are laughing !!
