The Slumping Sens take on The Irrepressible Islanders - 7PM, Sat Nov 15th, 2008

Projected Lineup

Heatley - Spezza - Winchester
Zubov - Fisher - Alfredsson
Vermette - Kelly - Neil
Foligno - McAmmond - Donovan

Phillips - Volchenkov
Picard - Kuba
Smith - Schubert

Auld
Gerber

- The Sens are slumping and continue to fall down the standings. They are currently sitting in 25th place.
- They are unable to produce at ES all due to a lackluster defense team that is continually exposed over and over again.
- The bright spot? ...?! ... They are still top ten in special teams.

Sens will need to: Score a ES goal again sometime this decade.

Projected lineup

Bergenheim - Weight - Guerin
Tambellini - Nielsen - Hunter
Hilbert - Bailey - Okposo
Sim - Park - Jackman

Sutton - Streit
Campoli - Gervais
(?) - Skinner

MacDonald
Danis

- The Isles are 29th in the league. They are two points behind the Sens.
- 25th worst PP. 21st in GAA. The most losses in the NHL. And they defeated the Senators 3-1 in their last matchup.

For the Isles to win, if they face the same Senators lackluster play, all they need to do is show up.

Note: This GDT was ripped from Fuhr's as it was the last gdt that spurred a "winning streak".
This game doesn't appear to be playing on Canadian TV. For streaming check: http://www.atdhe.net/

Some effort would be nice.

Fingers crossed.

Are those lineups for real? Why is Zubov on the 4th line.......

Zubov getting to play on one of our best lines, 2 vets that will help him.

There's no more saying the Sens are a good team slumping, or still the same team that went to the finals. If they want to become a good team again, they are going to have work really hard for it, starting all over again. This game is as good a time as any to start the rebirth, not rebuild.

I think Garrioch just put him in Ruutu's place at practice today. I'm sure we'll find out where he'll be tomorrow. If they put Shannon on the top line, it makes sense to have him in Foligno's place on that second line.

Is this game scheduled to be broadcast locally in New York? Hopefully a stream pops up.

Yeah, there's an MSG broadcast that will be on Center Ice, so we'll see on the stream.

I've got Centre Ice so it won't be a problem, but it's been a real drag to go without the Sens on HNIC for a month (I missed the Toronto game). Love them or hate them CBC has the best production in hockey.

I pay for CI, and every single game happens when I've got class/prior social engagements. Damn you karma.

Ya TSN has stepped up a few notches while CBC has certainly dropped IMHO. Any outfit willing to employ Milbury and PJ Stock for their insight and expertise is obviously desperately grasping on their way down...

Not to mention, TSN has the song

Yeah, I'd rather listen to the TSN panel guys than listen to Don Cherry contradict himself over and over again.

Garrioch re-iterates that Zubov is not likely to start the game in the top six...

Quote:
That's why rookie Jesse Winchester will likely skate with Heatley and Spezza tonight while Alfredsson is expected to have Mike Fisher and Nick Foligno as his linemates.
Though I suppose with the way Hartsburgh shuffles his lines that Zubov may get a chance to play up there at some point.

Garrioch didn't have anything on Shannon being on the top line, so I'm not ready to take his word yet. All he has to go off is the lines from practice. Foligno has been moved around plenty, and sure doesn't deserve to be on the 2nd line.

With a slight wind of enthusiasm, WE'RE GOING TO WIN.

Then, I'm reminded that a win is not much of a consolation as we still have ground to make up and even after winning three in a row we can sink back down to this rut.

Positives will come out of this game and we should build on it. The team is on the road, is angry and is sick of it all, we're going to have a great game.

I wish they'd try something like
winchester-spezza-alfy
zubov fisher heatley

and see how zubov does, maybe even try him as center on that line. What's the point of putting zubov on the fourth line. If he struggles then it's ok to put him to the fourth line but he should be given a top six opportunity to start with.

MetalheadSen's Keys to the Game:
-Show up. We are more talented than the Islanders, who are a lottery team. As long as we show up and actually work hard, we will win.
-****ING SCORE ON EVEN STRENGTH YOU IDIOTS. We can't rely on our powerplay forever.
-Chris Phillips and Jason Smith need to stop playing terribly.
-Obligatory Filip Kuba Assist

I prefer CBC production over TSN. While TSN now has the song and does not have Cherry, Stock, and Milbury, TSN also has goofy people in its studio intermissions such as Keith Jones (who does not know what he says half the time), James Duthie, and Darren Dreger. These people deteriorate the TSN production below the CBC.

It is stupid on the CBC's part not to have this game on HNIC tonight or in two weeks when these teams meet again in the same rink. Last week, the CBC added the Calgary at Columbus game to the HNIC schedule on three days notice. Hopefully, Scott Moore will do this in two weeks time!

It's been my observation that whenever you think this team (or any team really) hits rock-bottom, they go one more game before they turn it around... I thought they'd hit rock bottom in the Montreal game.

Their current season stats are not too different from two years ago. And it was about now 2 years ago they got the Melnyk speach and turned their losing ways around. I sure do hope it's time for the same kind of turnaround.

Go Sens Go!!!!!!!!!

I've got 91 vBucks on the Senators.

Can't lose to the Islanders 2 games in a row and they'll be away from the boobirds. Great way to start fresh.

Trash the Island! 5-2 Senators!
