Exhibit A as to how hockey doesn't matter on ESPN:
Last night an ESPN program was discussing how the Detroit Pistons needed a hero citing the heroes on the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and no mention of the Detroit Red Wings. All this despite the Red Wings probably being the most succesful team in Detroit right now.
Horrible post. This conversatoin cannot be had without Ericsson.
Ericsson, Kindl, McCollum, Larson (maybe), Helm, Howard, Leino (if u can count him), Abdelkader (maybe)
No one else belongs on that list.
Most would say Ericsson, Kindl, Helm depending on what school of thought you choose.
66% of wings fans imo would say Ericsson. Some say Kindl but he hasnt shown squat. The rest choose Helm as he has a bit of a fan club. This thread fails without ericsson.
Ericsson is the top redwing prospect imo pretty clearly. This agrees with me:
Also Howard has backed up maybe 10 NHL games in his entire career. I wouldnt call him a backup just yet. Hes played 6 or 7 nhl games over the last 4 years. He is our number 1 AHL goalie until next year when his waiver exempt period expires. Then who knows.

From a GM, "Detroit is the best team we've played this year. It's not even close. Their puck control is incredible...You have to hope your goalie has a great night to give you a chance."
Kindl probably has the most upside of all the Detroit prospects, but it's pretty shaky whether he'll ever reach it.
Helm might be the most NHL-ready as he'd probably be playing on every single roster outside of Detroit's, but i don't think you can consider a projected 3rd-line center as your top prospect - although he is going to be an absolute dandy. This kis has a set of wheels that the NHL will quickly become aware of.
Ericsson might be NHL-ready as a Top 4 defencemen. He's got great size, great mobility and puck skills for his size, and a rocket of a shot. Another one of those guys that is playing on the majority of NHL rosters if he isn't in Detroit.
As far as the goalies, from what i've heard McCollum probably has the most upside of the 3 goalies in Detroit's system. He's still ways away though so that's too early to call.
And there's other players with good offensive talent that could surprise and make a big leap in Mursak, Emmerton, and Axelsson.
And if Leino is a prospect, then he goes near the top of the list as well.

I would agree McCollum appears to have the most upside. But in all fairness all three of Detroits Goalie prospects are pretty much equal atm. In a year or so McCollum or Larson could either pull in front of Howard. Hard to tell. I am not sure how detroit ended up with 3 great goalie prospects but meh not to shabby.
McCollum, Larson, Howard is my guess on potential. Most proven would be in reverse order.
As others have already said, Ericsson is our top prospect. He would be playing this year with the Wings but they wanted him to get as much ice time as possible.
Probably some 6th rounder drafted 4 years ago currently playing in Sweden.
9th rounder (dead last at #291) drafted 6 years ago from Sweden playing in the AHL.
That the Wings signed him completely blew my mind. From being drafted to '06 he had done exactly nothing. He had 1 point in 81 games over 3 different SEL seasons bouncing back and forth between center and defense. And now he's the #1 prospect. Being 6'5" 220lbs, a fluid skater, with solid puckhandling skills and an absolute bomb from the point helps I guess...
