The announcers thought it was definitely late. They also thought that the Ross board should have been 5 instead of 2. The writers in Philly focused more on the 60 minute effort that the Flyers because it was the best effort they have given all year so far. No need to talk about a cheap shot by a player with a questionable history. Let's move on.

Aside from this and Tucker, Kovalev also knocked out Alexei Zhitnik with an elbow to the head in the 2001 playoffs.

Laraque absolutely destroyed him. That term gets thrown around a lot, but it fits in this case. I wish Laraque would always open up like that, rather than just when he fights someone like Barch or Gratton.

Honestly ... the Plekanac board was WAY dirtier than this hit.

yea me too. And I saw Markov try to kidnap a baby from the stands, as well. He was probably trying to get a new recruit for the Evil KHL. Didn't bother to check tho.

Amazing.

The lack of outrage is a good point, because usually any hit to the head that gets a thread will get 400+ replies. Especially considering the teams involved.

The CW shows hockey games? Isn't that the channel with shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and America's Next Top Model.

NHL trying to appeal to a new demographic?

I don't know if I can disagree with Gagne on that one. If a Flyer had delivered that hit instead of receiving it, there would be a LOT more outrage, and probably a suspension.

When you're the Flyers, even though I'm sure everyone with a clear mind is an advocate of fairness, after last year the Flyers don't really have a right to complain about any hits. I said this over on the Flyers board, when Thomas Pock got suspended, he owned up and Garth Snow did too and they accepted it, a guy with no history. Last year after Hartnell was Cote suspended, the Flyers started crying about it, and any questionable hit was followed by "Well if it was us, it would be a 10-game suspension." Colin Campbell is a very fickle guy, I wouldn't want to give him a reason to make an example out of me.

For once we agree with each other. Taking that approach is all wrong and will get you nowhere. But I do think something should of been done. Head shots in general should be eliminated from the game. No one should have their career ruined. I'm glad Gagne is taking a stand.

It wouldn't be the first time, he'd walk away without a suspension. Remember this (even it was Hollweg):

The way I saw those hits, the Kovalev one could have been an interference call, and Plekanec didn't tried to injure, just hitted a guy in the numbers without much power so he didn't deserved a game misconduct.

You don't like the Habs, fine, but those hits aren't thread worthy...

Look at this video

Now, find the similarities. Tucker and Hollweg both tries to elbow Kovalev in the face, Tucker clipped Kovy while Hollweg's hit was evaded and got a taste of their own medicine.

And against the Flyers, a team that made a point to finish their check - even late ones - on him during the playoffs, he finishes his on key players of the opposite team.

Oh, I think I see a pattern here.

That was actually a pretty disgusting elbow. Its funny people are defending this. This does not happen "all the time". That was an elbow to the head that knocked someone off their skates. Dangerous hit.

Kovalev has always taken no **** and gives as good as he takes. Good for him, I loved it when he hit assclowns like tucker and hollweg, stars wouldn't have to defend themselves if the NHL did it for them. Philly is a dirty team, probably pissed him off, sure it was wrong but I still enjoyed it

The hit by Weight was perfectly legal, deliberate elbows to the head aren't.

Ok now Kovalev is a dirty player, he's our new enforcer so be prepared for his dirty stuff when you face the Habs...

The hit on Gagné was late, but the elbow wasn't high at all... plz stop crying, no one is hurt, you won that game, what do you want more ?
