I certainly hope Lowe doesn't trade him but I'm just curious to see what some of you would be willing to offer.

He has a 4.1M cap hit and is signed until 2012. He has 17 points in 17 games this season and is on pace for about 25 goals. He's 25 years old now and as a 22 year old he was a clutch performer in the Oilers run to the 2006 Finals. He's not your stereotypical European player. He's willing to battle in the corners and take a hit to make a play(we've all seen the youtube videos). Most importantly he proved at the end of last season and is continuing to prove that he can find a way to be a point per game player even if he has no one to play with. He also has that "wow" factor that puts people in the seats and brings them to the edge of them nightly.

What's he worth?

I love Hemsky and his snap shot which always seems to burn Columbus. I'd give up Voracek + to get him. I don't know what his value would be so I might be over valuing him because I love this guy, but I'd give up Voracek + 1st rounder 09 and a 2nd tier prospect such as Mayorov or Dorsett if it could land Hemsky. Maybe I'm in the wrong ball park for him though.

With that contract he is worth a ton, but why would the Oilers even think of trading him?
He has to be one of the best bargains in the league.

I think a Jordan Staal for Hemsky swap would be a good deal for both teams.
PIT will have a legit top 6 RW for 4.1M and Edmonton gets a 2nd line center.

PIT wont have to pay someone making around 5M to play on the 3rd line.

I'd love him in a Rangers uniform. Sadly, I doubt he ever leaves Edmonton.

Voracek + Modin/Chimera + 1st rounder?
or
Voracek + Klesla + 1st rounder?

That would seriously suck for Edmonton. Hemsky is the only thing that makes people watch anymore, another player along the lines of Staal... I'll pass.

Yes! Deal Hemsky!

With that darned Hemsky out of the way, and Sheldon Souray due for his annual season-ending injury any game now, there'll be absolutely nothing standing between the Oilers and the first overall pick in this summer's draft! HAHA! HAHAHA! One BILLION dollars!

I made a similar thread on the Wings board, as I think our biggest needs are a) a one-shot scorer b) a shutdown d-man. Some interesting offers there:

-Gilbert, Hemsky for Zetterberg, Stuart
-Franzen and Hudler
-Filppula, Kronwall, '09 2nd

I especially like that first one.

Nobody will give up enough for Hemsky to make the Oilers a better team right now.

At best, somebody might give up some youth that could make the Oilers better in a few years, especially with the bottom-5 finish this year that would inevitably result.

Trading Hemsky would inevitably be a battleship-for-rowboats type proposition, and the Oilers already have too many rowboats and too few battleships.

I'd trade Nash for Hemsky and something. Although if we ever traded Nash it would be part of a deal to get something better than Hemsky most likely

I pulled up a list of the top 30 scorers to see who I'd trade him for straight up.

Hemsky's 28th right now in actual points, so nearly everyone here's scored more this season. Still, he's only 25 so it's understood that part of his value is in his potential and sweet contract.

If I had Hemsky, I'd give him up for any of these guys:

Malkin, Semin, Hossa, Getzlaf, Crosby, Iginla, Kane, Mike Richards, Thornton, Ovechkin, Heatley, Datsyuk.

I wouldn't give him up for these guys - they'd have to add something:

Gagne, Setoguchi, Marleau, Dumont, Selanne, McDonald, Ribeiro, Doan, Little, Brassard, Tanguay, Stajan.

And with these guys, I think it's too close to call - they're worth about the same;

Parise, Savard, Perry, Weber, Vanek.

Need I remind you that Hemsky has a better career PPG average then Nash.

Many don't realize it and call Nash a superstar, but Hemsky is as good or better a play maker then Nash is a goal scorer.

Exatly what I was thinking. Hemsky would be great with Crosby in all aspects of the game. I think both teams have the pieces to pull it off too.

I hope he doesn't. It would be extremely strange to see him in another team's uniform.

How would that make any sense whatsoever for the Oilers? 1st line RW>>>>>>>>>>2nd Line Center. We already have one second line center making 5+ million and we sure don't need another.

As for moving Hemsky, he is the only player on the roster I'd consider untouchable. With that being said, until we find him a guy with comparable skill to play with he's leaving after this contract is up.

Vermette + something else for Hemsky? Ottawa could use him if Fisher will be a man and play on the god damn wing.
