Unfortunate. However, there are many other world events or festivals that the city of Montreal can attract. Hopefully they will begin looking at other options so the store owners can make some money. Gonna miss the GP though. Summer just wont be the same.

What pisses me off is that people don't realize that we have to spend money to make money...

Toronto will probably jump on the occasion to get the GP for the next years...

That's what happen when the governments don't care unless it's too late. In 15 years, the province lost a nhl team, a f1 gp and a mlb team. That's a shame.

Someone proposed a 24h race, kinda like Le Mans, that would be a really good idea. People could eat, go to the race, to back home, take a nap, wake up go eat again and go back to the race in time for the finish.

i mean the F1 itself is really useless. For us, it's about the amount of money the city makes out of it (and for guys, all the sexy ladies ).

But to be honest, until that sport is run properly by owners who arent total *******s, good riddance.

Eventually, it's going to catch up to them.

Toronto will pull them one by one in the next 10-15 yrs. It started with the Intl film festival and slowly starting with the just for laughs festival. I guarantee you that if the F1 is back in canada it will be in TO.

MTL is becoming one big village

I understand this, but our tax-payer money could be much better spent than on this disaster of a sports.

It's nearly impossible to not fall asleep during a F1 race.

I'm kind of sad seeing that international visibility and glamour gone but in the end if it costs 40 millions for that "show".... Just do some other happening and ;

Good riddance Bernie!

Disaster of a sport? F1 is one of the most popular and widely watched sports in the world. It's also one of the most prestigious. Any taxpayer money spent elsewhere will not yield the dividends of an F1 race. It's such a shame that Bernie Ecclestone is at the helm of F1 because he's ruining the sport and throwing tradition out the window. I can't wait until the Middle Eastern oil barons blow each other up so they can bring F1 back to places it belongs.

Billions of people watch F1. The 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix attracted an average live global TV audience of 83 million viewers, with a total of 154 million viewers. It's known to attract the largest worldwide audiences after the Football World Cup and the Olympics. There's the prestige that comes from this alone. Then, there's the sheer amount of money involved. Manufacturers such as Toyota, Mercedes and BMW, and Ferrari invest billions upon billions in the sport. Toyota's annual budget is 600 million. This is a big-time sport that draws huge crowds wherever it goes. The Monaco F1 race is one of the most glamorous events of any kind. Although F1 may not bring a profit to a city due to the high fees it demands, the money is more than made up through propping up the city's reputation and its tourist industry.

on top of that, people are saying we should spend money on festivals or anything... As far as I know I don't think many people will come in montreal and spend 10K in a week end to see a movie in a movie theater or A jazz performance when the performance will probably travel somewhere closer to them... The "major" point of the F1 is that the people that follow the race have lots of money to spend and that it is new money that comes into town. In comparison to the Habs for example which is almost all money that comes from inside our territory...

sucks for montreal but a broken economy means we cant dole out the cash like other places.

I say we fix the economy first then worry about these events.

Billions???? well a lot , but not billions.
if all these manufacturers spend billions each in the F1 maybe they should keep the billions an lower the price of cars I want to buy, humm where would I go to vote on this? no more F1 and save on my next car. I wonder who would vote my way??

Ok... so Coca Cola should stop spending billions in Advertising and lower the price of their drinks...
It's unbelievable how some people lack vision. It has already been said but you have to spend money to make money.
