It is early, but this kid is playing great on the top 6 for the blackhawks this year...
I do feel Brassard is a lock for top 3 of ROY, and the fact Brassard is younger does give him an edge in consideration, but Versteeg has been lights out for the hawks so far this year... and im shocked there is not much hype for the kid on here...
This kid Brassard is on pace for 81 points and is +9 after 17 games played. He is also doing this while only playing 14-15 min a night tops. He just got promoted to center Nash/Huselius line so unless he hits a wall(good possibility) I could see him finishing with 90+ points. The thing about him that most people who don't watch him game in and game out is how much he hates to lose and how much work he puts in day in and day out.
Versteeg is an awesome combination of working hard, working smart, and good skill. I think Brassard still has the edge on him at this point, but it is close. 2 goals for Versteeg so far tonight, both from busting his tail and making smart plays. I'm happy to have the RoY happen to Columbus this year because they deserve some good things there, but I'm also happy as hell as a Hawks fan to have Versteeg. He's already one of my favorites.

I am thinking the Hawks/Jackets games for years to come are going to entertaining. Toews/Kane/Versteeg vs. Voracek/Brassard/Filatov. Talk about young skill that are all entertaining to watch play. The most exciting game I have watched the CBJ play this year was when the 'Hawks came to town.
Brassard and Versteeg are the early favorites. Don't count out Berglund who's 5th in rookie scoring as the Blues #1 center in Andy McDonald is likely out a long time. Doughty could be a surprise if he keeps it up. Been a little while since a defenseman won it. Jackman I believe? Voracek could erupt also.
He may not win the Calder, but Versteeg's a pretty good player...or at least he's sure looked like one. I noticed him in the first Hawks game I watched this year and a few posters mentioned him in the "early Calder favorites" thread a couple weeks ago.
Versteeg's play doesnt really comes as a surprise to me. He looked very good when I watched him last season too.. But it looks like he has taken another step forward this season.. I dont think he'll win the calder, but it wouldnt surpise me if he is nominated.. Chicago got an excellent player for pretty much nothing...
Never saw that before! Wow we need to get a donate CD drive going for Versteeg. His taste in music sucks!
I think this guy will be a Hawk for a while! He has great chemistry with Toews and Kane!

you can't blame Versteeg for his musical tastes... his hometown lacks any and all culture as well as a decent radio station... sadly they still play fergie daily
