Stevens doesn't have what most people refer to as a "system". His idea of coaching is to switch up the lines and defensive pairings until something looks like its working. When it inevitably stops working because of a lack of this so called "system", he just changes them up again.
Is he still whining like last year or has he grown past all that?
If we're bringing PP coaches up, Perry Pearn should be #1 on the list. Ironic that his initials are PP
The Pens powerplay scores in spite of itself. Teams with a much less talented unit have stronger puck movement, usually it's some great individual effort that gets the goal. There are never any adjustments either. He sucks enough to be mentioned here.
Therrien & Stevens are god awful at this point with their teams.
I don't get all the hate on Therrien. I should, because I'm a Pens fan, but I don't.
He makes good decisions most of the time.
For example, he gave Talbot a shot on Crosby's wing, and that's worked out very well. Also, his use of Mike Zigomanis has been simply masterful. Against Detroit, he matched up Ziggy with Datsyuk to take faceoffs on the powerplay, and he won 2 draws that turned directly to goals.
Oh yeah, he took the worst team in hockey and has made them one of the league's top five teams in 2.5 years. Yes, I know Crosby, Malkin, Staal blah blah blah but it still takes a good coach. He knows how to get results out of his players.
