Jeremy Roenick update thread

I figured we could have a thread of just updates for JR so that everyone on HF could easily see, and discuss. I've seen a fair share of people that are behind on the latest update in various threads, so it wouldn't hurt to have this little resource.

March 1st update:

Panaccio: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/8074205.htm

Moran: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/8075604.htm

Nothing has changed on the doctor front since Friday, when an angiogram showed no brain damage. The spot found in earlier tests probably existed since his birth doctors say. JR says he no longer has headaches after working out, but does experience some dizziness, but "I've had a good couple of days [since Friday]."

even with the severity of his injury, I still think he will be back...this year.

definetly good news that the spot was nothing to worry about.

does anyone know how much weight he has lost to this point because I read a week after all this happened that he had already lost 6lbs. hopefully he won't loose to much because that will be a factor if he comes back this year.

Primeau Update Thread

I figure since we have one for JR, we should have one for Preems as well.

Latest news about Preems:

Primeau

I put the two together to make it easier. There haven't been as many updates for Primeau, and they usually come in the same article as JR updates. And if there are any major updates on Desjardins, we should put them in here too.

Saw something during the Habs/Devs game that JR was cleared to begin light workouts...vowed not to retire!!
God I hope I'm not dreaming that. Sportsnet Telecast I believe.

This thread is a "Sticky" now.

Hopefully it won't be around too much longer!

We should also add Rico to this thread, although I think he'll be back in about 10 days.

March 2nd

Ed Moran: http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/8083247.htm

Quote:
Jeremy Roenick (broken jaw, concussion) is expected to be back at the practice rink tomorrow to start rehabbing with strength and conditioning coach Jim McCrossin, according to Ken Hitchcock.

Meanwhile, Keith Primeau continues to work toward getting back from the concussion symptoms that have plagued him since suffering a blow to the head against the New York Rangers on Feb. 12.

He continues to ride the stationary bike and has tried skating on his own. He is experiencing symptoms but feels as though he is beginning to recover and is hopeful of playing before the end of the regular season.

To add to Doc's report from Moran, here's a piece from Panaccio (March 2):

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/spo...ey/8081806.htm

Quote:
Team captain Keith Primeau, who is recovering from a concussion, has increased his exercise segments from 10 minutes of exercise and 45 minutes of rest (repeated twice) to 15 minutes of exercise and one hour of rest (repeated twice). "I feel like I have made progress," he said.

Primeau is undergoing daily massages, and his visits with neurologist Gerry McGinnis have led to a theory - held by all parties - that some of his post-concussion symptoms might be muscular. The center hopes for clearance tomorrow from McGinnis to boost Primeau's exercise level, but he still has no timetable for a return to the lineup.

Center Jeremy Roenick (concussion/fractured jaw) had his third consecutive "good day" and planned to catch a red-eye flight from Phoenix to Philadelphia last night.

Roenick told ESPN last night that he has decided not to retire.

During the first few days of his recovery, thoughts of retirement entered his mind. Not just his, but surrounding family and friends.

Ive had 90 percent of my family and friends that want me to retire, said Roenick. Its not going to happen.
Best news ive heard all week!!!

thank God JR is good to go. I would hate to see him retire when our team is probably the best it's been in years. This will likely be our best shot to win but we still have to come together in time. Here's hoping we get the Isles first round.

"Primeau failed to pass a base-line test performed recently by Dr. Gerri McGinnis, which will delay his return to the lineup.

"My memory and my visual memory results were fine," Primeau tells Phillyburbs.com.

"I'm not sure of the connect-the-dots one is cognitive (the one he failed). But after talking with Dr. McGinnis, it's the one test of all she puts the most stock in. So that wasn't what I wanted to hear from her."

...

"Meanwhile, Jeremy Roenick is expected to undergo his own base-line test on Monday to determine the level of his recovery from a broken jaw and concussion. Roenick says he's felt "awesome" after going through a strenuous workout Thursday but knows he's not ready to resume playing just yet.

Defenseman Eric Desjardins will undergo either a bone scan or an MRI on his forearm next week to determine if he's fit to return to the lineup. Desjardins says if he is cleared resume playing, he could be back following "a few practices". Head coach Ken Hitchcock says a more realistic timetable is two weeks.

just getting Desjardin's and Primeau back will be huge but to get all three of them will be great.

They want Preems to have 3 symptom free days before he comes back. They don't want him to come back, get hurt and be done for the rest of the season. Works for me, we are winning, no need to rush.
