Blaming Conroy for the goal? Why? Phaneuf left the front of the net wide open. Conroy and Gio were in position.
Well this is where I disagree.
I think Conroy had to make a better read on that play. Gio was already watching Wolski or Hensick, don't know exactly, behind the net, that there was no need for him to leave the high slot the way he did.
Hence why I asked what the heck was he doing on that play.
However, I do agree Phaneuf also has to keep his head on a swivel. The fact that both Gio and Conroy decided to take the same guy, should've clued Dion in that maybe he should cover the high slot.
The second period was much the same as the first. Almost total domination by the Flames and a Godlike showing from Budaj to keep the Avalanche in it. The Flames were skating, passing and shooting. Couple the faceoff wins with an aggressive forecheck and the quality chances were coming.
The powerplay again tho mostly good, was unfruitful. Zero for four, with a 5 on 3 chance yet to finish. I would say tho, that the second like Power Play unit showed exponentially better energy and intensity. Boyd especially, has impressed me all game. He's been all over the ice, and every time there's been a quality chance you know he's been an integral part of it.
It's been nice to see the boys actually show up and give an honest effort. The main reason the powerplay unit has been as busy as they have been is because the Flames have kept their feet moving, and are constantly driving to the net.
