Drawing a Line

Time to draw the line, folks.

If you believe that this incarnation of the Montreal Canadiens, with Gainey, Carbo, staff and the majority of the players can win the Stanley Cup this year, move to the left.

If you believe that this incarnation of the Montreal Canadiens, with Gainey, Carbo, staff and the majority of the players cannot win a Cup without a major coaching change, GM change, or trading major superstars, or we just can't win the Cup this year period, move to the right.

I want a thread to reference in April when people are trying to claim they believed in this team from the very start.

And I'm standing to the left.

Most of us will be on the left, it's just that the team has to win one game convinvingly for some posters to not call for heads to roll, we're Habs fans afterall, it's what we do.

I'm on the left

I am on the right, but not in a negative way. They can compete and will be very good, but I never saw them winning it all. They simply dont play well enough defensively to convince me of going to the left.

The question is simply not fair. I am on the right, but I still believe that the team is very good.

Does that make any sense?

Left.

To be honest, I've been on the Left for many, many years. A psychiatrist might be tempted to say I suffer from a delusional psychosis.

The question is very fair.

Feeling the team is very good but can't win a Cup means you are on the right. You don't believe the team can win the cup this year.

Good team, but as they are now, not a Stanley Cup Winner type team.

I'm on the right.

It does make sense what you're saying AH. Would you feel the same way if Gainey added a top 4 D-man, which I feel he is more than likely to do before the trade deadline?

I am middle left, if we add an element or two, I move to extreme left.

1) Take a paper sheet
2) Put it in front of you
3) Take a pencil in your right hand
4) Take a ruler in your left hand
5) Press the ruler on the sheet
6) Press the pencil's edge over the top-left corner of the ruler
7) Drag the pencil's edge towards the right until you reach the top-right corner
8) Take away the pencil and ruler
9) Admire your newly drawn line

Alternative cases:

3a) Pencil not sharp; sharpen pencil
4a) Ruler not clean; clean ruler.
4aa) Ruler not available, take any straight and flat object.

We need a number one, a Norris winner still in his prime or someone who is emerging as one. I simply have no faith in Markov.

And in addition, we need to add a selke winning calibre forward to our top three lines.

Right. But I think we can win it if a few minor tweaks are made at the trade deadline.

I think we're close though. I do think we'll be a contender for the cup and likely be favorites come the playoffs. Just not RIGHT NOW.

I feel the same. I love the team and want them to succeed but from day 1 i felt the "win the cup this year" thing is a bit premature.

If they won again it'd be a 93 type thing where some heroic stuff happens in the playoffs.

so, I am on the right.

Left.

There needs to be a major change in the way the team plays defense before the Canadiens can win it all. But that can be addressed within the organization without any major personnel changes, so I think being on the left is more fitting for me.

Let me just state I have no problem with a person who says they are on the right. That's your feeling on this team and thats completely understandable, and dare I say, acceptable.

I have much more respect for someone who says, "I never believed this team could win the cup but they proved me wrong" than someone who says "I always believed it!" with a thousand posts during losses saying this team was **** and fire Carbo.

The purpose is not to out the doubters, it is to out the liars. And if you say left but Fire Carbo, you're lying.

I'm leaning left at the moment because I do believe that Gainey will make the required changes, extreme as they may be.

I admire Kovy's skills and although he's saying the right stuff in post game interviews, his body language on the ice is worrying and an unhappy Kovy is not good for the team. He needs to be dealt with by Gainey soon.
