What about Afinogenov?

TFP says he could be moved

Sabres winger Maxim Afinogenov has struggled so far this season, having scored just once, prompting speculation that the team could be trying to move him.

According to the Buffalo News, Afinogenov will be scratched from tonight's game. The 29-year-old is a minus-8 with one goal and seven assists in 18 games to start the year.

Drafted by the Sabres in the third round (69th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Afinogenov has spent his entire NHL career with Buffalo.

Afinogenov, a native of Moscow, is in the final year of his contract and is making just over $3.33 million this season.

From the looks of things, everyone seems to think the Stars will finish last or next to last in the conference. Why then trade a young player or a pick for a UFA to be?

And one that can't score goals in Buffalo and might be even worse in his own end than Brunnstrom. Pass. I'd rather just lose playing our young guys every game. They at least have the chance to improve.

The last thing the Stars need is another player that doesn't fit into the current system.

The only Maxim I'm interested in, sure isn't a hockey player.

I actually don't think it's that bad at present. Sure, the Stars were already fighting an uphill battle to make the playoffs before Morrow's injury and it's steeper now, but the only guys I'd like the Stars to pursue would be ones that are either young and have upside or are in the twilight of their careers, thus could be had on the cheap. I've never liked trades that involve trading legitimate prospects for quick 'fixes,' fixes that never seem to work with the Stars, and I don't see how Afinogenov would be an improvement over anything the Stars already have.

What we're going to likely see from here on out is a very tight, defensive team that will make previous Stars teams look like Buffalo. Afinogenov wouldn't contribute to that style.

I could not careless about Afinogenov, but what type of players do you think they need?

Offensive defenseman

Defensive defenseman

Speed guys

At this point, I just don't want a veteran unless they get him for absolutely nothing. I swear if they trade or waive a young player Iíll go insane.

If they pull out of the tailspin, and are in the playoffs, fine, get a veteran. At this point though, it would be asinine.

I know one thing I want them to get is an enforcer.

Face it, they're going to keep Barch so he can get his *** kicked for Ott an Avery unless they replace him.

Well they've got first dibs on Wade Belak, but I'm hoping Hull isn't paying any attention to that.

Ott, Avery, Barch and Belak? Overkill, IMO.

Of the players that have been in recent rumors, Vermette is the one I'd like to see in Dallas. I doubt it could happen, but he's great on the PK and faceoff. Plus, he's a speedy guy. He's been pretty poor offensively this year but he scored 20+ goals last year and 50+ points.

I don't know if he is a realistic option, but he'd fit with Dallas I think.

I'm going to compare Afinogenov to Conner.

No thanks.

Do not want Afinogenov. Bad attitude, streaky as all hell and pretty useless this season.

The only veteran player I think they should even consider is Shanahan on a one-year deal, mostly because I think he brings the same intangibles as Morrow and he's a great locker room/veteran leader and teacher. If they can't make the money/contract/location work there, no real loss.

I second this plus Shanahan has experience with Avery, we are looking for a short term fill in. 1 year contract on Shanahan would be ideal. Plus we wouldn't have to give up young talent to get him.

I'd be down for Shanahan, hell no to Afinogenov.
