No, no, no, no, no. If Luongo is out long term they'll give Sanford/Schneider a shot before making a deal such as this.

Hahaha.

Schneider/Sanford>Gerber. All things considered.

Well I think Gerber is at least comparable to Sanford.

You didn't consider all things. The line between the best starter and the worst back-up isn't straight. Gerber may very well be the best back-up in the game, while at the same time being the back-up least deserving of a starting job... if that makes any sense (it doesn't).

Vermette for Ohlund doesn't interest me.

Doesn't interest me either. Adding Gerber to the equation makes it even less palatable.

Really? You do realize that Ohlund would be the number 1 defenseman in Ottawa right?

please, never make another proposal again. Sanford is a better goalie than Gerber. Schnieder will be called up and will get some playing time as well. Vermette is extremely overrated by the Ottawa fans because he got 50 points last year. The Canucks don't need Vermette and certainly not Gerber.

We already have two better goalies then Gerber. And give it up, the Sens are not getting Ohlund for Vermette.

I'm sure he would be a top pairing 'D' in Ottawa, but he is an UFA at then end of the year. That means giving away a speedy penalty killer who gets 50 pts signed for 2 years for ...potentially a guy gone in a few months. Tough decision, expect we would not do that.

We also have a mini-Ohlund with Kuba in our lineup, another upcoming UFA.
And Vancouver fans don't want Vermette, either - so we might as well call the league office and cancel this trade

He did get 50+ points last season - but that was the one and only time so it's a bit of stretch to say "That means giving away a speedy penalty killer who gets 50 pts". In his defense, he's only what? 26? So it doesn't mean he won't get 50+ points again in the future.

If Vermette was on a 50+ point pace this season - he wouldn't be traded regardless of the injury situation & certainly not for a pending UFA.

Yah, 5 points in 20 GP and a -6. Getting paid $3 million next season. I guess we'd be paying for 'potential'.

The only place Gerber is going is through waivers.

The amount of Canucks fans who look at season-wide statistics and not how he has been playing recently = 100%.

so wild generalization are okay. How many stupid fans for every team = 100%. (It is not true but it can be fun to make wild accusation.)

Anyways Vermette really doesn't fit what Vancouver would need. Vancouver's need up front (imo anyway) is a big body scorer. We have a lot of smallish playmakers and could use a big body who is good for 30-40. Plus as I've said before The Canucks should only deal Ohlund if either (a) The offer is a massive overpayment; (b) At the Draft for picks or (c) They suffer massive injuries and are going to miss the play-offs.

It makes some sense. And no, I did consider all things.

-What happens to Gerber once Luongo is back? Do we keep him and waive Sanford?

-Salary. Why take on Gerber's salary, when that could be spent on something else?

-Getting Gerber means sending back Schneider. One of the positive things about this Lui injury is that Cory can get some of the NHL experience that GM's will look for if trying to trade for him. Not only that, he could pull a Carey Price (not gonna happen, but it's not like Gerber is gonna do that).

I have not heard one Canucks fan remark on how good Vermette has been playing recently. Until I do, it stands.

Anyway, this trade is garbage, and the Senators team isn't sinking.

Gerber is an anchor right now, he's certainly not helping anyone.

The deal doesn't make sense for you. I was just arguing against the idea that Sanford is better than Gerber. Strictly as a back-up, Gerber's numbers with Anaheim and us (last 3/4 of 06-07) are great (.920+). As a starter, Carolina was at least happy with him for much of a season... while Sanford is unproven.

I have to admit that I criticized Ohlund's play last year. This year however he has stepped it up. His defensive play especially. Trading Ohlund for Vermette straight up is a deal the Canucks organization would have to consider. Although Vermette's play this season has not been good, on his defence neither has the play of his team. Maybe a trade would benefit him.

That all being said, Gillis doesn't do this because he's happy with the play of his centres as of late. The only line I could see Vermette centering is the 4th, but that would be a shame considering his talent.
