Player of the Game Thread VS Tampa Bay 11/26/08

Zherdev for me. Two more assists, a shootout goal. A FIGHT!!! He was a force to be reckoned with in overtime and has 5 points in his last two games now.

Naslund also an easy pick..

(Please don't fold this into the GDT thread...)

Can't forget Rozsival, for the simple fact that he had a solid game after playing poorly for so long.

Indeed, the first of his career if I'm not mistaken

A great game overall by Z, Rozy, Mara, Nazzy, and Henrik

Lundqvist (as always...)
Rozsival (You'd be a fool to disagree)
Naslund (The guy has shown no flaws thus far this season)
Zherdev (For just being Zherdev, fighting, and not even knowing he scored in the shootout)

BTW, on a side note: I hope we can please lock up Zherdev for as long as he can lace up skates??? As long as I've been watching this team. I think he's got the quickest hands.

Zherdev really has shown how ridiculously skilled he is over the span of the season so far. I love Z. He should be resigned but he still has some growing up to do.

I was at the game the other night(monday) and at the end of the 1st with like 5 seconds left he was smacking his stick on the ground for a pass at center ice from behind the net. Then he missed a pokecheck behind Phoenix's net and he slammed his stick against the glass while play was still going on.

But that being said. They still need to resign him.

Hahahaha - check the caption to my avatar. Been there for weeks.

Anyway, as to the thread's title, I have to go with Rozsival. And not enough people are naming him even in their top 3.

Credit where credit is due, folks - he's had some godawful games this year, but this was the best he's looked since 2007. Both goals (in regulation) were a direct result of him making the right play. Furthermore, he made at least a dozen quality plays in his own zone that not only defused dangerous Lightning attacks, but turned them into Rangers' advantages the other way. Make no mistake, this was a game where the Lightning were playing at their highest level and it was the Rangers quality play in their own zone - making all the talented little plays in close - that was the difference. Rozsival and Staal in particular were excellent in that capacity.

3. Lundqvist
2. Naslund
1. Rozsival

(4. Zherdev)

I was going to write my own list, only to scroll down and see that you've done it for me.

edit: as noted above ^ Malik gets an honorable mention for the fall. That was hilarious. I thought Dubi should've just tried to go top shelf blocker side when he was so close in on Smith.

Colton Orr - For taking that Koci bomb square on the jaw and not going down.

Definitely Zerdev, Naslund and Hank. Thought Rozy played a real solid game too.

Overall, a great game. The most notable stand outs were Nazzy, Big Z, the King, and Rozy.

Not just this game, but if we would lose Lundqvist or Zherdev, we would stink.
