Let's get right to the point of this thread:

Who's going to offer Macster the HVAC engineer -a great job- so he and his fiancee can move to Columbus and go to all the games?

(Or who's going to let them live in their basement?)

I'm an HVAC designer, my educational background is Mechanical Engineering.
That's my background, too. Came out of school w/an ME/HVAC R&D background, but jumped ship a while back to do IT management.

I no longer work outside of home, but I will qualify my vote by saying that I do not think work is for "suckers". (And I work damn hard around here, too!)

Hail to the geeks! IT Security guy here. Since I usually can't tell people what I do or who I work for I basically just say that I am the guy who tells you what websites you can and can't go to from work, and I keep your social security number out of the news. Truth is, it's a lot more than that, and what some people do with computers causes me trouble sleeping at night.

If I had it all to do over, I'd skip college and would have just taken the Cisco Certifications all the way up to CCIE. I would have probably saved about 50K on my education and I'd probably be making about 50K more in salary per year. The rub is, I'm not sure Cisco was even a company when I finished H.S. in 1987.
Yeah, no doubt. Sad that it works that way, but I tumbled along from IT job to IT job until I dove into Network and Security certifications. I doubled my salary in three years and it goes up 5 to 8% every year since. It's crazy. And it paid for my move from the East Coast to here.

I own PC Geeks. We provide technology support for SMB's.
I left Nationwide Ins in 2004 after 20 years. I was the webhosting manager when I left.
My team supported the servers that hosted all of Nationwide's websites.
