WIP / Gonchar

I was listening to WIP late last night, and they mentioned several times that "canadian media is rampant with the Flyers having strong interest in Gonchar." Didn't mention any deal was about to happen, but they made it sound like something could be close. Personally, I think Toronto could be the front runner, but having a Gonchar on this team would immediately solidify a potential weakness. Not sure what Washington would want. Its been rumoured that they wanted Carlo C. and a 1st from Toronto and possibly more. Unless the Flyers were going to part with 1 of the 2 C prospects, they would certainly have to include Seidenberg and probably a future 1st, and that probably wouldn't be enough. Just passing this along.

That Toronto is involved in the rumor mongering means that the folks at Rumor Control have to work ten times as hard.

Let Toronto get Gonchar. He'll make them better, but won't put them over the top. And the cupboard is rather lean in Toronto, a deal for Gonchar will just about wipe it out (aside from Stajan).

That's a good point. At this time last year, Flyer fans would have been going nuts over Gonchar but this year - with the power play rolling along - most people don't feel as if the Flyers need Gonchar.

Personally, I think he'd be expensive and would rather have Witt.

I guarantee Clarke is going to trade for Gonchar, he'll give Seidenberg, Somik and a pick, or osmething along those lines, as long as he doesn't include Carter Richards or Pitkanen i could care less.

Somik's stock has dropped in my view this year. dunno if we could deal him in a deal for Gonchar. but yeah i agree, i would love to get him without paying the Carter,Richards and Ruzicka price.

The newest rumor has Boston as the front runner.

Maybe so, but front runners rarely win.

by the sounds of things at tsn.ca, the bostonian front runners have won. i guess this means we won't be overpaying for a d-man we really don't need.

now lets get witt it!

Funny how Devs fans and Flyer fans had the same reaction to that Gonchar trade to Boston. . . all the way down to the Witt sentiments.

Oh really...?

But actually, I hear ya. Everyone else can just better your offer and weasel their way in there. Looks like that's what happened with the Toronto and Colordo. Just gald to see the Leafs miss out on another guy. I would love to see them get forced into overpaying for Leetch,

The last thing the Flyers need is another offensive defenseman who has no physical presence at all. We need some muscle and Witt is definitely the guy that can give that. I hope Clarke gets him soon.

Ok i was wrong, so sue me. Word on the street is Witt will cost more then Gonchar did for financial reasons. I don't know if another trade is what we need. We have completely changed the complexion of this team, and more tinkering can prove to be threatening to our chances.
