don't hold your breath tho, but it's nice to be given a bit of a time table.
Hopefully he makes it back a couple weeks early...so he can re-establish himself and we can trade him for a 6th rounder at the deadline.

Laich will get a letter as some veterans fall off the roster... he is already one of the best (coherent, semi-cliche, honest, well spoken) interviews on the team & is emerging as a "core" player on & off the ice.

and lets not forget all the trim his teammates get from his cast-offs ... he is, afterall, the Ladies Man.

If Pots wants to play by mid Feb he better be skating and working out hard in the next few weeks.

Maybe he's targeting a mid-Feb date to begin his fitness? If so then maybe he can come off LTIR near end of season and playoffs.

edit: thanks txpd but I still think he needs to start hitting it hard soon if that's his date for wanting to play.

Vogel. Caps Report. Potsie has been riding the bike and skating some apparantly. He has been around enough that Alzner mentioned Pothier giving him some help since he's been called up during an interview on NHL Live today.

He also aimed for last weekend. Basically, when given a timetable for someone's return, add at least another week. Add at least three weeks for Semin .

That is fine on a game at a time basis. I believe that Bruce was angry during his presser today specifically mentioning the lack of secondary scoring. He said that other than Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kozlov and Fleischmann, they are getting nothing. Speaking of the other forwards he said, "we need them to be better than they have been." He said those players are being given a chance to show they are more than just role players and they are not stepping up.

He doesnt need to score 5 or 6 goals every 9 or 10 games, but 1 isn't enough. Its really not enough when big guns like Semin, Fedorov and Green are not in the lineup.
As a 20 goal scorer and a guy that gets regular power play time he is counted on to step up. If he doesn't, they will lose more often. And they are.

Look at Fleischmann. Semin and Feds are gone and he has stepped up to 10 goals.
The Caps need Laich to chip in a couple more.
The other stuff he does is not lost on me, but sometimes its just not enough.

I would love to see Brooks score more, even more with Semin and Feds out, but lately Bruce has been using Brooks in more of a checking role, and has ditched the 3 line scoring for now with all the injuries.

Boswell clearly riding the Caps Band Wagon, and even tosses the mighty Redskins under it for good measure

This year is such a market share opportunity for the club - 140% increase in viewers over last season, per Comcast. McPhee says the first 10 home games are a new Caps attendance record.

A successful Frozen 4 and we could really look like a budding hockeytown.

Great stuff!

And now, back to your regularly scheduled program. Good day.

But all around him are young standouts such as gifted sniper Semin, 24, who has 13 goals in just 16 games, the multitalented Green, 23, who has eight power-play goals, and wing Nicklas Backstrom, 21, who had a goal and an assist Tuesday.
Hmmm....

"It's in the book," Boudreau quipped, referring to his forthcoming biography. He paused, then cracked with a smile, "I had him for a week. ...It felt like a year."

Apparently, there's an entire chapter in the book that will be dedicated to Avery.

Bargains and busts: From Red hot to Wildly disappointing

10. Tomas Fleischmann, Capitals: Another of the young players that coach Bruce Boudreau had in the Caps' minor league system. Fleischmann has been getting to play more this season and already has 10 goals, as many as he had all last season. On Washington's scoring chart, that trails only Alexander Ovechkin and Alexander Semin, who both make a lot more than Fleischmann's $725,000

remember how people were freaking out over Flash's contract when it was signed, for it being for TWO years and too much money?

Let's all hope we're having the same chuckle about Erskine's contract this time next year.

The idea of John "Upside" Erskine cracks me up a bit.

Though, one has to look only as far as Tom Poti to see someone who didn't develop a great defensive game until he was older than Erskine is now.

Tarik essentially reports no one back tomorrow, Green back real soon, and Erskine no where near returning.
