Best current players to never appear in an all-star game
Who would you say is the best player in the league to never have appeared in an all-star game? The best I can think of is Saku Koivu. Any others?

You are right. It had happened so long ago (96-97) That I totally forgot about it. Who is the best then?

Hejduk made the all-star game the year it was held in Colorado. He was one of the 6 Avs players chosen (Roy, Sakic, Forsberg, Blake, Borque, Hejduk)
He was a replacment for Jagr who was injured.
The best I can think of off the top of my head are ....
Martin Havlat
Marek Zidlichky
Kim Johnsson
Lubomir Visnovksy

All those mentioned thus far pale in comparison to Adam Foote.
Scott Stevens went 14 times, and even that tool Derian Hatcher went one year. Foote's easily overlooked in Colorado--and too often the idiot coaches who mind the benches at the games always try to even things up by pulling players who don't deserve to be there--like, um, Petr Buzek? Just goes to show you what kind of a joke the all-star selection process is.
A bit of a dropoff then, but Ohlund and Smyth are next on the list. After that, a bunch of younger guys who will get their time soon enough (ie - Havlat) and thus far, one year wonders (ie - Kipprusoff).
And of those mentioned, Hejduk's played in 2, Gonchar 3.

Mattias Öhlund played in all-star game 1999.
Can't think of any star-player who don't have played a allstar game.

Hmm, TSN didn't have it in his profile. Guess they were a little sleepy then...

It is Z-man's first year in the NHL, but due to age he isn't considered a "rookie."

Foote definately. He is good enough to make Canadian World Cup and Olympian teams. He should have been in an Allstar game already. And while being a mostly defensive defenseman he has pulled himself up to the 30+ point pace the last 3 seasons, which is fine for a player like that.
If Ryan Smyth hasn't been to an allstar game, he definately is overlooked also.
