With Vandermeer out with a broken ankle the Flames can not afford to move an NHL defenseman at this point in time... I also don't think pardy is ready to play every night... so unless the Flames are at least getting a bottom pairing defenseman in any deal it does not make sense for them to move Aucoin... although Aucoin + Hamrlik have played extremely well together in the past
Maybe something like...
To Calgary:
RW - Alex Kovalev (4.5)
D - Mathieu Dandenault (1.725)
D - Shawn Belle (0.6)
total cap hit to Flames --> 6.825 million (6.225 if Belle goes to QC)
to Montreal:
D - Adrian Aucoin (4.0)
F - Matthew Lombardi (1.817)
F - Kris Chucko (0.984)
total cap hit to Montreal --> 6.801 million (5.817 if Chicko goes to Hamilton)
Why the heck would Montreal make any of these proposed deals when Kovalev is a much more important part of the Habs than Aucoin and Lombardi combined?
Cause Kovalev is the Habs boards' whipping boy this season and they try to get him out of town as hard as some of the Flames fans try to get rid of Aucoin.
Fanwise, this trade would be a match made in heaven.
That trade will never happen. Even though i do not like russian forwards (dmen are ok) i'd do that trade. However, there is no chance habs would accept such trade.
Don't think Sutter is ready to give up on Lombardi just yet. He looked good with Cammallari and Iginla. But I can see something happening with Aucoin and Kovalev

pretty hard not to look good with those two. would like to see a trade like that go down, how about just kovalev and belle for aucoin and a pick? montreal really needs d men though

That is a horrible deal for the Flames. Lombardi has been stellar since coming back and is actually getting legit 1st line time. Chucko is having a breakout AHL year a PPG player.

Kovalev is a much better player than Lombardi or Aucoin... as a package they would carry slightly more value than Kovalev alone... hence the addition of Dandenault who is fairly similar to Vandermeer... with both Dandenault and Kovalev being UFAs the Flames would reduce salary for next year allowing the Flames to resign Bertuzzi/Cammaleri in the offseason much easier... and I think Belle/Chucko is pretty much a wash
so if you are going to bash my proposal explain why... because Lombardi getting 1st line minutes does not make him a 1st iiner... 1st line minutes or not... Kovalev >>>>> Lombardi

So you'd trade a 26 year old Lombardi who looks like he's finally breaking out for a 35 year old Kovalev who looks like he's on the decline?
That's terrible in the long run

He has never been a fan of Lombardi and has wanted to get rid of him for the last 2 years, so not suprising, though I don't think his proposal is too far off value-wise.

I agree, at the moment it's not too far off value wise, but in 3 years we'd be kicking ourselves

He's gone PPG in the last 3 while playing on the top line with Iginla and Cammallari and looks damn good out there, strong on the puck and generating lots of scoring chances.
The numbers might not look good now, but I think the next 3/4 of the season are going to be big for Lombo if this line is keeps up

you mean like last season was supposed to be big? and the season before? Iginla and Cammalleri are taking Lombardi for a ride. You try giving him credit for being a point per game... but when his linemates are both over a point per game in that stretch is obvious they have more to do with his production than vice versa
