I'm happy with this trade! If it's for real... seems to be

Kovalev is a big upgrade over Dagenais. + Isn't Kov a good play-off performer. Habs got enought depht to be able to moove Balej..

Do you think that BG made sure that Kovalev could* be interested to sign back after this year? Because he did say he didn't want a rental or was he just bluffing?

overall it's a good moove imo!

Is the source of Ron Fournier a NY beat journalist credible?

I've just heard it 5 minutes ago while driving my car back home. Too late I didn't post the rumour first because of my rumour joke earlyer this morning (Official: Gainey moved).

If this is true, Kovalev is one of the best winger of the league, maybe he isn't at his best now but the price tag is kindda cheap I think. Good move by Gainey, next he have to get a Keith Carney kind of D and maybe an hard worker like Eastwood and then the PO, who knows??!!

I love it ! Sure Balej is tough to give up on but we have so much young skill up front..we can't keep them all

So much for Gainey not making a big impact move! What a guy!!!

Balej I guess seemed expendable with the others in Perez, Kats, Hossa and Higgins...ect.

Great trade!!!!!

And I doubted the announcement by Komisuraus...sorry man!

Was it worth it?

Jozef Balej and a 2004 second-round draft pick.

Hrm

I'd say its worth it, Kovalev is having a off season and he is still doing good.

I was fine with dealing Balej we have a TON of skilled young forwards. We aren't going to have room for all of them. We had 2 2nd's last year. We dealt from where we had a surplus and got a SUPERSTAR when hes not in Ranger silks.

Koivu and Kovalev will rock ! OMG I am so excited.

It's incredible how this forum just suddenly came to a screeching halt. I wonder how many people are posting right now... :p

All I can say about this trade is: HOLY CRAP!!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!

Although I'm sad to see Balej go, we end up getting a franchise winger. Pretty darn good trade! And I'm not sure since I don't see Balej enough, but I doubt his top-end potential would be better than Kovalev's current form.

Woo! I'm happy!

Sounds like a lot for a rental, imo.

Josef Balej, fine, but a 2nd...I dunno, the 3rd from Sanjose would have sound better...

I know for a fact Gainey would not trade Balej and a 2nd rounder for Kovalev just for this year... He probably talked with Kovalev first before making the trade...

Hrm

Any chance Gainey could be setting himself up for another big move? IF kovalev plans to resign that would mean we have alot of active wingers...

This sucks, gainey gave up one of the most exciting prospect today for an overpaid UFA, shadow of Kovalev!!!!!

This is a great pick up: First you don't give up any of the players on the roster to get Kovalev. Two, Montreal will be buzzing from now on as it hasn't happened for a long time. Three, Kovalev should be able to unlock Koivu. Four, by this move Gainey shows that he believes in it. He shows that he will do all he can to get the cup where it belongs.

IT'S SO NICE!!!
Balej will not play for the Habs but with all the good offensive prospects, I really don't care. We're starting to have two pretty good offensive line.
