Craziest stat of the year so far

There have been some good ones...The league best 7-4 when trailing after two periods got me looking into stats and while that one is easily the most impressive...there are some fine choices when looking at player stats.

So let's vote.

Orpik for me

The rest is faddish. As is Orpik's two goals, but if ended the year with two I'd be surprised still.

The fact that Mark Eaton actually has a shooting percentage that isn't 0.0% is just mind blowing

Most surprising stat BY FAR is our record when trailing after 2 periods while we have a disappointing record when leading after 2 periods!!!!!!

None of the above.

My vote goes to the Pens being ranked an abissmal 21st in the league on the PP, and oddly enough being ranked a really solid 9th in the league on the PK. It's almost like we've stepped into an alternate dimension this season where we're improved defensively and posting some solid goaltending numbers, yet we stink offensively outside of the usual suspects.

The only other statistic I'd really give some serious notice to is TFK's great offensive numbers this year with 15pts in 24 games, as well as a great +9 rating while playing on the 3rd line. Too bad he's injured now

Doesn't mean I am disappointed in him in any way but definitely would have thought Tanger would have a goal by now.

How's that stat surprising when we are missing our two powerplay defensemen?

IHWR is right.... there are almost too many bizarre stats to choose from.
How about this one: While Detroit's defense has been largely healthy, it has given up 8 more goals than Pittsburgh's sans Gonchar and Whitney throughout 25 games.

Zigomanis with his face off win percentage shouldve been in the poll.

Really...why? He's always really good at faceoffs. Nothing crazy about that.

I'm shocked Letang doesn't have a goal yet. He does seem to be shooting the puck much more often over the past several games.

I found another stat this morning that's pretty nuts.

The Pens have 82 goals for. Malkin has 41 points.

His been in on half of the Pens goals this season. Yowzers.

Because he is leading the league in faceoff wins. At least he was, pretty sure he still is, but not 100% sure.

He went to a different type of stick, and now is back with his old style stick. I think the night we played the Rangers at the start of this road trip was the first game he had his old stick again. And he made a shoot out goal... So thats a move in the right direction for him.

His currently second in percentage.

But he finished 7th in the league in faceoff percentage 2 years ago which was really his only full season in the NHL. So it's not really like this came out of left field...he was brought in to be great at faceoffs and he has been.

BEcause we still have the league's two top scorers on our PP, plus more than competent goal scorers like Sykora and Satan out there along with them. I'm not saying that I'm expecting it to be as effective as it was with Gonchar and Whitney on the blueline, but you do at least expect it to be performing MUCH better than it has been.

That's not even taking into account shootout goals.

Also, I think that if you're going to include Crosby leading the team in goals, I think it's even stranger that Malkin would be leading the team in assists by the margin that he is. You'd almost expect Crosby and Malkin's stats to be reversed.

I said Letang's lack of goals. Honestly, that is the most shocking thing for me.
