Edmonton needs a LW to play with Horcoff & Hemsky

The Edmonton Oilers need a top line left winger to play with Shawn Horcoff and Ales Hemsky.

Dustin Penner looked good last season towards the end but was too slow for that line and remains inconsistent.

Erik Cole cannot play LW at all and Hemsky isn't switching out of RW for Cole.

Robert Nilsson, while he may very well be our best LW he is more suited for the 2nd line.

Ethan Moreau should DEFFIENTLY not be playing on our top line LW position ever again. That is a risky move, I believe even though a good player he should stay at home on the 3rd line.

So I ask you JUST who is the Left Winger that could fit into the Mac T system on the first line left wing position to play with Hemsky and Horcoff!?

Please make it realistic and tell what it would take to get that person.

Taylor Pyatt for Erik Cole straight up. Hmm, on second thought add a pick.

I honestly don't see that as an upgrade, Pyatt doesn't seem to be a 1st line LW.

Taylor Pyatt GP:24 G:3 A:6 P:9 +/-:1
Erik Cole GP:23 G:3 A:4 P:7 +/-:-1

It's pretty much even so I highly doubt a pick would be involved in this deal if it DID go through. I wouldn't do this trade, Edmonton needs a 1st liner LW not another 2nd line player on the top line.

Antropov and Poni are both up for grabs and for the low low price of a first and a prospect you can now land them both.
Toronto would even take on Garon or Roloson since they are UFA's next year. I heard that Schremp is being shopped as well as Souray, accoding to the Toronto Sun today.

We'll give you Kovalev for that Grebeshkov kid, that Schremp kid and a first round pick. Oh and you take Dandenault.

Sounds good?

Cogliano Souray and a 1st in 09, and 10 for Zach Parise.

Penner has been great on that line since being put back up there, they have great chemistry.
Penner fits just fine.

Higgins really would be the perfect fit for the Oilers' top line. I'd definately make that trade even though I have less than zero interest in Dandenault.

Trust me. Cole's capable of playing LW. He just needs to go to the net and collect garbage like he's been doing his whole career.

Maybe he's not motivated because he knows he's not staying in Edmonton beyond July 1st...

When I was watching the game today, and watching Hemsky fly down the ice, I thought of Vermette as a player that could keep up with him. The question is whether to put speed with Hemsky, or a sniper to bury those wicked cross-ice passes, and watching the game I thought speed would be more useful. The price would be a nice 3/4 D, but not somebody who rates as a 1/2 D, or who rates never to be better than a 5/6 D. If you put the right offer out, you might snare Phillips+Vermette, but note that Ottawa will not take on much more $ in any trade, and UFA2Bs have not much value.

If it was speed needed we'd have Cogliano there. I like Vermette and think he'd be a fine fit in Edmonton because of his faceoff abilities and speed but not with Hemmer. Edmonton would be better off going for an elite sniper to play with him.

I'm intrigued with the fact that you mentioned Phillips. Has he really regressed this year? Haven't watched many Sens games.

Souray will NOT be moved he has a NTC for the next 3 years and Chris Phillips also has a NTC in Ottawa.
I agree that Vermette would be a great fit in Edmonton but he is still not the answer for that first line LW.

How's Paul Kariya in St. Louis? That 6Million cap hit looks gross though.
Paul is locked up for 2 years at 6M a year.

I'm sure Havlat is available in Chi town but he's injured too much but he's not doing too bad right now.

I would love to have Kovalchuk here but we gotta be realistic the way this team is going there is no chance in hell he's going to want to play for us unless we turn around and become a contender.

Kovalev would be a very interesting pick up for Edmonton but he's going to want around 7M+ I hear alot that he is too streaky is this true?
I know I watched this thing on tv about Kov and he looked amazing on it, he was shooting pucks where ever the guy in the interview pointed and Kov hit each spot. I think if Montreal is going to part with him we should be interested. It will be interesting to see how Montreal keeps the team they have now next year with the cap going down and the amount of money they have free'd up. Looks to me it's between Kovalev or Taungay unless Koivu takes a discount.

ALSO... I'd love to see Schremp in Toronto to see him get a good amount of ice time but I don't see Burke trading with Edmonton. Offer sheet? LOL Burke's got the money this time round all 10 Milli+ of it.

I wouldn't want Kariya. I think he would be upset and would effect his performance on the ice. Now, EDM went after him in the past and apparently Kariya had slight interest although it could have been a negotiation plan against other teams. Now, I say he might be upset because I always hear that Kariya doesn't want the media attention and wants to be left alone. He signed with Nashville and then St Louis. They say that he had a chance to play in his hometown of Vancouver but refused becaause of the how big hockey is in Vancouver.

I'll never happen but what about...
Cammallerri for Cole. Two UFA players after this season. Cammy would look nice with Horcoff and Hemsky and Cole is a Sutter type player.
