Might be the unpopular opinion here but Semin has the best shot, followed by Kovalchuk and then Ovechkin and Heatley.

Kovalchuk for power and accuracy. Ovechkin is sometimes too powerful, will miss the net, and the puck will come right out of the zone. Often see this happen several times a night.

Kovalchuk`s shots (slap, wrist, snap) are all ridiculous, he`s embarrassed Cam Ward too many times, in the NHL and internationally. Kovalchuk for sure.

I would vote Ovechkin for the best screen shot he always seems to make shots at full speed between the legs of a defender its truly impressive on his part !

In my opinion, this comes down to Kovalchuk vs. Heatley.

If you are talking only about pure shooting ability and pure sniping ability, neither of the other two are quite at the level that Kovalchuk and Heatley are at.

They would be at the absolute top of my list if I was down by 1 goal, and only had enough time to get 1 shot off before the game ended.

It is pretty hard to choose, but I choose Heatley by a hair. Both of them put up about the same amount of goals in total. But Heatley probably scores more goals off his shot than Kovalchuk does. Kovalchuk, on the other hand, will put up more goals off of dekes and whatnot than Heatley.

I just don't think there is a purer sniper in the league than Heatley. Almost every goal he scores is off of a laser-like shot.

Kovie probably has the best shot of those players. They're all pretty great at it but Kovie's shot really is a tad higher

Also, I don't mean any disrespect, but why is Semin on this poll?

Yes he has a great shot. But should a guy whose career-high is 38 goals really be compared with 3 guys who have multiple 50-goal seasons?

I don't understand his inclusion in this poll. I understand even less the fact that he is currently 2nd in votes.

I think that there is perhaps some "flavour of the month" type of stuff going on here.

A guy like Iginla would make much more sense in this poll.

The question asks who has the best shot, not who scores the most goals.

That is true.

But when trying to determine the quality of a shot, it makes sense to add-up all of the goals a player scores off of pure shooting ability.

If a player scores 50 goals off of their pure shooting ability (in other words, off of an unstoppable shot that the goalie had no chance on), then it is fair to suggest that they have a better shot than someone who only scores 35 goals using the same method.

Semin doesn't score nearly as many goals off of pure shooting ability than guys like Heatley or Kovalchuk do.

Heatley scores 50 goals a season whenever he is healthy, and pretty much every single goal he scores is by blasting the puck past a poor goaltender. Same with Kovalchuk, although not quite to the extent as Heatley (hence why I voted for Heatley).

Needless to say, Semin isn't quite close to the level of either of these guys.

in the world championship heatley scored on a slap shot from center.... he also has the most goals by a canadian in that tourney all time... stick handling and breakaways mean nothing in this poll, i really dont see how heater is losing, in his 50 goal campaigns he probably had like 3 break away goals, 47 1-timers each year
