No "other" option? I'd vote Carter if it's about wrist-shots.

Needless to say, Semin isn't quite close to the level of either of these guys.
Really?Whenever I've seen Heatley score he stuffs it in .Granted I don't watch Heatley too much.

Edit Some snipes but a lot more stuffing in

I love Kovalchuk's wrist shot.

His slapshot is incredible too.

Voted Heater. Based purely on shooting ability, Heater IMO has a ****ing laser beam that always finds a hole, and it's no coincidence. Amazing release too. Heater, but not by much.

ithink kovy has the best release since hull, and has been that way since he was 18, still doesnt get enough credit. they are all top shooters one way or another but overall it isnt a competition imo, ilya has one the best shots ever. the other guys are just the best in the game right now. i think his release beats semin hands down, semin just shoots higher more often which makes people think he is more accurate, ilya shoots low a lot - higher % shot but less style points and it hides how hard he actually shot it. ilya scored a wrister last week top shelf skating away from the net on top of the circles that was quicker than any ive seen semin shoot, after some nice stickhandling as well.

Of the four, Semin has the best shot, although he is not the best shooter.

Yes he has a great shot. But should a guy whose career-high is 38 goals really be compared with 3 guys who have multiple 50-goal seasons?

I don't understand his inclusion in this poll. I understand even less the fact that he is currently 2nd in votes.

I think that there is perhaps some "flavour of the month" type of stuff going on here.

A guy like Iginla would make much more sense in this poll.
Heatley is/has been the goto guy on his team, the primary triggerman on the PP, plays 21min a game, centered by Spezza, one of the top playmakers, and Alfie on his offwing.
Semin has been playing on the 2nd line(5 games on the first this year), 17-18min, isn't the primary triggerman, and was centered by players like Kris Beech, career AHLer, with Zednik/Pettinger on his offwing.

This is the first year Semin is in a position to succeed, and he's doing well.. Heatley is always in a position to succeed..

With all due respect, that really means nothing.

I'm not even a big fan of Kovalchuk, but he has the best shot. His release is ridiculously fast and he has great velocity.

The best center Semin played pre-deadline last season was Kris Beech or Jakub Klepis...

Can't take a shot if your linemates can't get the puck to you.

You whole GOALS argument is pretty off here. Look at where the Cap fans are voting...we watch 2 of the 4 player on a regular basis.

I think its between Semin and Kovalchuk here.

Semin will start getting more cred by season's end...thats for sure.

If you are talking only about pure shooting ability and pure sniping ability, neither of the other two are quite at the level that Kovalchuk and Heatley are at.

They would be at the absolute top of my list if I was down by 1 goal, and only had enough time to get 1 shot off before the game ended.

It is pretty hard to choose, but I choose Heatley by a hair. Both of them put up about the same amount of goals in total. But Heatley probably scores more goals off his shot than Kovalchuk does. Kovalchuk, on the other hand, will put up more goals off of dekes and whatnot than Heatley.

I just don't think there is a purer sniper in the league than Heatley. Almost every goal he scores is off of a laser-like shot.
I agree with this almost entirely. I remember when Heatley played in ATL, he was in charge of the one-timers and it was damn near automatic. Kovalchuk's shot is absolutely blistering, but in a game situation where one shot makes the difference, I'd go with Heatley.

That being said, Kovlachuk has the best shot (4/5, heatley has best one-timer, imo) out of all of them. Semin is close with his wrister/snap, but I think Kovy's is harder. Ovechkin shoots like a madman, but is wild as hell with his shot placement.

That came to my mind too.

His release is just incredible.

I'd put Semin, Heatley, and Kovalchuk up at the top, and Ovechkin a bit below. There are a number of forwards with better shots than AO--Rolston, maybe guys like Nash and Malkin.

And btw, Sheldon Souray is a glaring omission here.

The OP should have provided some video of some goals for those of us that don't follow a team in the Eastern Conference.

Semin has the best wrist shot in the league.

Kovalchuck has the best slapper, followed by Heatley.

Ovechkin is the best all-around shooter w/elite wrist, snap and slapshots.

This is what I was thinking. I gave Heatley the slight edge because of his ridiculous one-timer.
