Hell no. A fine would be appropriate.

Damn, you got this poll up nice and fast.

No, they made a mistake. He was increasing interest in the game.

All I can think of is that Gary Bettman is trying to outdo Roger Goodell somehow, but I don't even think Goodell would suspend a NFL player for comments, just fine them.

Bad decision; it was not suspension worthy.

I think it was a good call to protect the player. We could have had another Bertuzzi/McSorley incident in the game otherwise.

Yes, it's absolutely the correct move. The NHL has always been a classy league with classy players and he kills that idea.

Interest is always important, but a premeditated, vulgar comment publicly about another player's wife or girlfriend is unacceptable. And lets be honest, this isn't something that stands alone.

Absolutely the correct call and I hope the Stars suspend him just as long as the league will, consecutive suspensions would look great in this situation.

I'm torn on this only because of how you want to punish Avery.

Do you want Avery to hurt unprofessionally, you let him play and get the High Holy Christ kicked out of him by the Flames.

Do you want to be professional and hurt Avery, suspend him and make an example of him.

Increasing viewership is the only thing important, wrong call. If he came out and masturbated onto the face of the reporter he should get a bonus. No limits when increasing interest is the goal.

Avery thinks only of Avery, and cares about nothing else. Now he's suspended and the Stars have to get someone else to play in his spot.

Yes, they were right in suspending him.

Averys punishment should have been getting the snot kicked out of him Phaneuf and/or Iginla. The Idea of pre-suspension is ludicrous.

Fine would've be more suitable but as mentioned before he would've been destroyed by Phaneuf and/or Iginla so I guess that had to protect him. Please tell me the Stars and Flames play in the near future.

People that say yes are just Avery haters. I don't like the guy either but I think he's great for the sport. He says things that gets attention and gets people interested. Sure some of it is just stupid and funny as well as hard to really take seriously but people pay attention to him and what he said was true.

Phaneuf is dating his sloppy seconds. Big deal, you date a guy's ex, he is bound to say something and now the NHL is acting all high and mighty about stuff he is saying? What a joke, the NHL has no consistency in how they conduct themselves.

The Avery suspension is stupid, I hope he appeals it and wins and says more ****. This isn't the No Fun League, Major Losers Brotherhood or the No Brains Association. It's the NHL, guys take a beating and talk trash, then show up to games in a suits and welcome a guy they hated to play against with open arms because they no longer have to be on the butt end of their hits or trash talk.

I would have rather seen the team deal with this.

1. Avery plays the game and gets the punishment that is coming to him
2. Dallas places Avery on waivers
3. Avery is in the ahl

Yeah and who gets hurt more by sitting in the box with Avery? Calgary or Dallas? If Avery causes Iginla or Phaneuf to drop the gloves and get a misconduct or game misconduct...has he really screwed up for his team or just did his job? Do the Sens players still hate Ruutu because of the crap he pulled against them as a Penguin? lol...some people...

Let me start by saying I think it was hillarious!

That being said, a suspension was merrited. If I were to openly criticize my co-workers wife, I am sure that I would have some sort of disciplinary action taken towards me. Sexual harrasment? I don't know if that is possible if it is not directed to someone that works at the company, but still, im sure something would be done.

Absolutely. Things like this have absolutely nothing to do with the game, and dont belong anywhere near it.

at this thread.

The fact that you all hate him, means he is one of the best pests in the game today, bar none. This much hate? That's like the ultimate sign for him for being the best at what he does and let's face it, he is the best at what he does. He could learn to control it a little but damn he's good at it.

Phaneuf railing his sloppy seconds lol...

It really isnt hard to say things to piss people off, or wave your stick in front of a goalie's face, or punch people in the back of the head and run away. Anyone can do that. I dont quite understand how being the "best" idiot is somehow a compliment. What a stupid thing to say.

By far the right thing to do.

Avery had no right to make a comment like that in the manner he did. This stuff might happen on the ice, but to all but announce this to the press, maybe he's just mad because Cuthbert dropped him and moved on to something better?

She's been a huge supporter of the NHL, writing blogs for the website and never saying a bad word about the league. I'm sure the NHL is thankful for having fans like her in high places.

Yet Avery decides to throw out a very cheap shot at her, hell I'm sure there are lawyers out there that could argue the comments made by Avery were a defamation of character. All these kids on here that like to think that there is freedom of speech just want to see blood shed on the ice, something that the NHL didn't want to see. As stated we don't need a Bertuzzi/Moore issue again.

Avery is a child. Only children like his antics.

No.

If the Stars organization had an issue with this, they should've dealt with it themselves. No need to give Avery any more attention and make this a league wide issue.

Every team has their version of Avery, dialed down to half of his potency. So don't act all high and mighty like your team is filled with Lady Byng candidates. I think what he said was funny and I am not much of a fan of his either. I just think it's funny to hear that sort of stuff, a lot of people say hockey interviews are boring but when someone says something funny and it gets a reaction it's "oh dear, what did he just say? oh my virgin ears!"...

Again, lol...
