Balej vs. Wellwood vs. Kondratiev

Due to a recent discussion in another thread, I decided it would be best to take this to you, the public. I would appreciate it if Rangers fans, Leafs fans, and Habs fans could disqualify themselves because of possible bias.

Who would you rather see on your team?

I am a Habs fan so I won't vote but there really is no comparison between Balej and the 2 Leaf prospects. Wellwood looks like the typical undersized, weak, slow junior star turned career AHL star. Kondratiev is a decent prospect but IMO his upside is probably a 3rd pairing d-man. Balej already has NHL speed and an NHL shot and IMO will become a dynamic top 6 forward in the NHL. I see alot of Russ Courtnall in Balej and IMO Courtnall was a good 2nd line winger at his peak.

Wow.

6 or 7 Hab fans voted.

I guess a lot of you don't bother reading the actual thread to a poll.

Oops...

Well, it doesn't matter now since Balej isn't a hab anymore... and from what I've seen of him I can say without any bias that IMO he's better than the other two on the poll...

How many times have you seen Wellwood and Kondratiev play?

I'm a habs fan and hence won't vote in your poll, but the thing people don't realize about Balej is not a top tier prospect.
He is 22 years old already. He isn't ever going to be a top line player. His ceiling is maybe a decent flashy second line player. I don't think he was at anytime considered a top five prospect by anybody in the habs orginization.

I don't know enough about Wellwood & Kondratiev to rate them properly anyways, so...

It could be me, but how are you so sure that a guy who is leading the AHL's rookies in scoring as a 20 year old, who made the AHL All Star team as a rookie is a career AHL Star, aside from the fact that he is a Leafs prospect and you are a Habs fan? Especially when you consider that Wellwood has already outscored Balej at the same age by 18 points (41 to 23) in the same amount of games?

Given that Wellwood has already played in the NHL, would you like any salt, pepper or mustard to go with the shorts?....

Or you could vote if you look at it objectively, like I did. I don't see either Kondratiev or Wellwood being on Balej's level, bias aside.

I see the same way, I voted for Balej.. plus that move where he pulled the puck off the outside of his skate and scored was really nifty

That's just it... can you ever be completely sure your looking at things from a completely objective standpoint?

Bias is inherent to some degree, it isn't something one can truly turn on and off.

You believe Balej is the superior prospect, and while I'm inlcined to agree one can never be wholly certain that both of us aren't being slightly influenced subconsciously by our hopes that our preferred teams prospects are better now and/or have a better chance of becoming impact NHL'ers.

The fact that we both almost assuredly have a greater knowledge of our own teams prospects likely plays into this as well.

I have always thought that theres a lot of hidden potential in Kondratiev and I thought he would quietly rise to be a very good d-man for the leafs and I expect him to do the same with the Rangers. He has always been a darkhorse for me and I think Balej is talented enough to become a 2nd or 3rd line (probably better suited for 2nd line work) but really I expect big things from Max and I think he will surprise a lot of people when he finally settles in to the nhl

Maxim Kondratiev, and fairly easily too.

Balej is a nice player, flashy, but I've never been a fan of his in terms of his ability at an NHL level.

Maxim Kondratiev is a severly underrated prospect and he WILL surprise a lot of people. I was sad to see him go because he's got potential none of you are seing. I think he could even be a top pairing defenseman. He's good defensively, his offensive skills are solid and he's not a small guy.

Maxim Kondratiev is the reason I call the trades for Leetch and Gonchar even. From what I hear this guy has been playing just awesome over in Russia. The -leaves are gonna look pretty dumb in 3 years if they don't win the cup this year, and I don't think they will, especially considering how many of their key players are either old, injury prone, or a combination of the two: Antropov(ip), Mogilny(ip), Roberts(old, slightly ip), Nieuwendyk(creaky bones), Leetch(old) Belfour(old, likely needs drugs to get out of bed in the morning).

They do have heart though, and heart is important in the playoffs.

Unbelievable. After asking Leafs, Rangers, and Habs fans to stay out of it, here we are:

Of the 4 votes cast for Kyle Wellwood, 1 was a Leaf fan.
Of the 15 votes cast for Maxim Kondratiev, 7 were in the Leafs/Habs/Rags group.
Of the 50 votes cast for Jozef Balej an astounding 32 were Leafs, Habs or Rangers fans.

Why can't people just follow instructions?

I'm a Leaf fan, but now that he's gone, I feel its okay to vote for Kondratiev.
