Edm - Tor

To Edm:
D Tomas Kaberle (4.25M)
C Nik Antropov ( 2.15M)
LW Robbie Earl (.650M)

To Tor:
D Laidslav Smid (.952M)
LW Dustin Penner (4.25M)
LW Rob Schremp (.650M)
G Devan Dubnyk (.650M)
1st Round Pick 09

I figure that Kaberle is worth Penner, Schremp and a 1st and Antropov/Earl can get Smid and Dubnyk. With the excellent play of G Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers I believe Dubnyk is expendable, and Penner and Schremp both need a change of scenery.

Kaberle alone would probably get better then an overpaid 3rd liner, a guy trying to break out in the NHL and a mid 1st rounder.

No idea, since you didn't actually post cap numbers. Of course, the OP doesn't have cap numbers either unless the player's salary is his cap number.

What do you think would be fair for Kabs Then? Maybe take out Earl and/or add another pick from Edm?

As a Leaf fan, I would take it and run away laughing. If any coach in this league can get Penner and Schremp going, it's Wilson.

Also, Smid is a highly underrated defender.

Terrible deal for the Leafs. Mid 1st, an overpaid 3rd liner(salary dump) and table scraps for Kaberle AND Antropov?

I'd say no if it was just Kaberle alone

can't exactly get greedy either, it's another year gone on his great contract, and atleast from what i've seen this year, he hasn't been as stellar as years past...

cogliano and a first round pick? don't you think that's an awesome deal ? i do kinda... maybe add a salary dump guy young enough to contribute or have wilson light a fire under, or add a guy without much value, like a pouliot or schremp...

i think that's decent

No thanks. We already have Souray and Vishnovsky. Both have better numbers this season then Kaberle. We're not trading our future for a 2nd pairing defensemen.

dont ask the leaf fans.... ask the OP who seems to want him ... We would react the same if someone made a proposal like this for Visnovsky..

I personally wouldnt give up our first rounder for Kaberle and giving up on Dubnyk, Schremp and Smid also doesnt make sense.

Bad deal for Edmonton. Schremp is going to be a player, he has the talent and has put in his time developing in the AHL.

Plus the EDM 1st 09 ... no guarantee at all that the Oilers make the playoffs this year, that pick could be quite high, I doubt the Oilers will ever give Burke a 1st ever again.

Besides, Souray and Visnovsky are producing better than Kaberle this season and the Oilers have Gilbert and Grebeshkov as well, how many offensive d-men do you need?

Penner started the year off bad because he was on a shutdown line with Ethan Moreau and Pisani.

Since he's been moved back with offensive players he's contributed with 6 points in his last 6 games.

He also leads the team in with +9.

Penner had the 12th most PP goals in the entire league last year but MacTavish took him off the PP to accommodate Cole.

Penner led Edmonton in goals last year but was taken out off the top 6 to accommodate Cole.

Now that Cole isn't doing anything he's been taken out of the top 6 and replaced with Penner and Penner is producing with the opportunity.

People that call Penner a salary dump are idiots.

Leaf fans just do all of Edmonton a favor and stop making proposals with us. We don't want your overrated goalie. We don't want another 4+ million puck moving rearguard. We don't want "Poni". Just give it up already.

Yeah... This is a huge chunk of future to give up.

Dubnyk is a player. He was 14th overall pick. Everybody is calling him table scraps and such. He is better than your hot shot goalie prospect. Eat it.

Not to mention Smid, Penner, Schremp and a 1st are all quality assets; and young.

Technically this deal is 1 undrafted College FA (Penner, the most established piece in the deal) along with 4 1st rounders. 9th overall, 14th overall, 25th overall, and the actual 1st which could be anywhere in the draft the way the Oilers are playing.

Thats a lot of value. Thats more 1st rounders going one way in a deal than I can remember in recent league history.

Table scraps my balls. The premise for the deal is reasonable. Leafs get younger, more skilled, more depth. Oilers get Kaberle and Antropov to contribute now. Unfortunately Penner is as good or better than Antropov and we no longer have a dire need for player like Kaberle.

Not on our team:

Ev pts/60 Dmen:
Souray 1.56 3rd in the league
Smid 1.06 Not enough TOI to rank
Gilbert 1.01 32nd
Grebs .80 52nd
Strudwick .72 64th
Vishnovsky .57 85th
Kaberle .57 85th

Ev GA/60 Dmen:
Smid .0.53 Not enough TOI to rank
Vishnovsky 1.49 4th
Souray 2.08 46th
Strudwick 2.40 76th
Staios 2.44 79th
Grebs 2.61 90th
Kaberle 3.01 116th
Gilbert 3.02 117th

Power play Pts/60 & G/60
Gilbert 5.70 pts 13th; .95G 32nd
Kaberle 5.57pts 14th; .51G 62nd
Grebs 4.35pts 22nd; n/a G
Vishnov 4.19 32nd; 1.79G 10th
Souray 38th; 1.10G 26th

Penalty Kill GA/60
Souray 6.54 #72
Gilbert 7.00 #76
Strudwick 7.35 #85
Grebs 9.97 #124
Kaberle 12.26 3rd worst in the league.

So kaberle would be the 7th best Point producing Dman on the oilers. Who would have the worst Ev defence on the oilers. As an ev player on the oilers he would be in the Press box.

But hey his strength is the Power play. He would be a good set up man at the point. The only problem is that Gilbert would eat the first pairing minutes.
Goals scoring on the PP Vishnovsky, Souray and gilbert are ahead.
Grebs numbers are comparable. With MacT blendering he would have PP time switched with grebs.

Penalty Kill: Our PK is bad but Man he is the third worst Dman in the league for that.
Press box.

The guy is in the pressbox on our team for EV play and Penalty Kill.

His strength maybe gets him 4th or 5th dman option on our Power play.

We're not trading our future for a guy who plays 3rd pairing defensemen in Edmonton.

I see i do not have to write to the unaware Toronto people on Penners handling this year.
Yyou nailed it perfectly.

Penhorsky is an elite line. Penner creates so much space for the other two. He works real well off horcoff. Hemsky. They both play off hemsky's transition play. But last year hemsky was the 4th best 1assist/60 player in the league and Nilsson was the tenth best. Nilsson might fit with those two. Freeing up hemsky to play with one of the 20best goal/60 and 1st assist/60 center in the league last year Bodziak.

As for shremp lets see what he can do on the line with Cogliano and Gagner.

As for any trade I desire it would be to move grebs. He is going to need 3M next year. I would prefer to move him to a team thats needs a PP QB. Get back a Mature Defensive Dman who is strong on the PK to pair Vish. Say Phillips.

Edit:Man I am pissed how MacT handled Brodziak and Penner this year.
