I've always thought Hossa>Datsyuk>Z...Just cuz they're on the same team doesn't change my opinion.

Definitely. The Z fans are mostly the people still riding the high of the playoffs. Its harder to place Hossa considering where he was playing and everything, but Dats was definitely the better of the two big guns in Detroit.

Crosby says hi...

Thing is, Detroit puts Zetterberg out in the toughest situations, not Datsyuk. I love Datsyuk too, but I'll take Zetterberg. lthough sometimes his injuries are annoying...

Its tough to pick one.. I voted for Datsyuk.. Zetterberg is a very close 2nd.. Hossa is great, but not as good as the other two, IMO..

Hossa.

Not only is he a great offensive forward with a great shot and passing ability but he is also a monster along the boards. Then, factor in his defensive aspect....as he is one of, if not the best, back checker in the game. Combine all his attributes and you have the definition of a 'complete' hockey player.

Datsyuk > Zetterberg > Hossa

I agree 100%. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are nearly equals in value, but i'd give Datsyuk the edge.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are bonafide Top 10 forwards in the NHL.

Hossa is a borderline Top 10 forward (probably on the outside looking in).

Obviously all 3 are great as you're comparing 3 of the best forwards in the NHL, but Datsyuk and Zetterberg have an edge over Hossa.

Hossa is a great backchecker, but so are Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Datsyuk is the most effective forward in the NHL at taking the puck away, period. All 3 are great backcheckers, but the difference between them defensively is that Datsyuk and Zetterberg are simply more sound all around, particularly in the defensive zone.

Backchecking is a defensive aspect, no question, but it's not the only one.

I doubt that Hossa will ever be nominated for a Selke. Datsyuk has already won one, while putting up 97 pts, and i guarentee you that Zetterberg will win at least one in the near distant future.

Offensively speaking, Hossa might have the most individual talent of the 3. Keyword, however, being individual. I don't see Hossa as a player who strongly elevates his linemates game - at least nowhere near the level that Datsyuk and Zetterberg do.

Let me put it this way, if you seperated all 3 of them onto different lines with equal parts, i'd take the lines with Datsyuk and Zetterberg over Hossa's without even blinking.

Hossa might be the most dangerous player on the ice, but i don't think he can control the ice in the way the other two can. He's a quick strike player.

Finally, Datsyuk and Zetterberg's ability to play either center or the wing really adds another element of value that really can't be undervalued. If Hossa could play center, than the best line in all of hockey(Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom) would still be together.

All 3 are great players, but Datsyuk > Zetterberg > Hossa.

I'm just glad Detroit has all 3 of them.

I don't care, we have them all!

Bust seriously I can't choose. They all bring something different to the table which makes them so perfect for the Wings.

Zetterberg puts those points with Franzen and Sammy, I know Franzen is a good player but at one point he was out for a couple of games, while Hossa has been playing with Datsyuk since the start of the season.

Zetterberg for me.

Pasha. He can dangle with the best of them, (maybe the best) and he can play D.

It's very close.

That's kind of odd to me.

I mean, in response to a recent post of mine in which i stated that Hossa was the 3rd best forward on Detroit, you replyed:

Now, with that type of response, one would think that you would have a pretty strong opinion on this subject. At least something with a little more substance than "i can't choose."

Where's the "They all suck" option?

Nah, I went with Datsyuk, but they all rock. It's unfair how Detroit can have three guys this talented (ignoring Lidstrom) and still be as deep as they are.

2 years ago - Hossa
Last year - Datsyuk
This year - Zetterberg (followed by Hossa, then Datsyuk)

Zetterberg has been on his game all year with the lesser linemates. And by that I mainly mean that Zetterbergs linemates don't suit him that well. Samuelsson is a decent 2nd liner, but hes nothing special, and his point totals are mainly the result of our overall offensive prowess this season and playing with Zetterberg. As for Franzen, hes an awesome goal scorer BUT he doesn't think like a playmaker. Ideally, Zetterberg should be playing with a hybrid go-to winger, because Zetterberg himself is a hybrid center - He is neither all goal scorer nor all playmaker and he should be playing with a guy on his wing who is a better balance of both. Zetterbergs linemates don't suit him nearly as well as Hossas suit him.

As for Hossa in general, hes had about 2 stretches so far this season - both about 4-5 games apiece - where he has been either invisible or has looked disoriented out there. That, combined with the fact that hes playing with more suitable linemates. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a more balanced line than the Homer-Datsyuk-Hossa line in terms of offense.

As for Datsyuk, I honestly think he needs Zetterberg more than Zetterberg needs him. I'm not sure whats up with Datsyuk - maybe an injury - but he hasnt been dangling as much and overall hasnt been as effective as the other two. In fact, I can think of two games where Datsyuk has been downright awful defensively (one being against Pittsburgh) and to be honest, I dont think Ive ever seen Datsyuk look as..undatsyukian...as he has this year.

when? In the playoffs last year, no. Zetterberg was. In the regular season, yes. I can easily admit that Datsyuk was the better of the two in the regular season. But if you've watched any of this season, its pretty easy to see that Zetterberg is bringing a little bit more than Datsyuk so far.

I think Datsyuk is the best of the three of them. Can't really dispute anyones choice here though imo.
