Buffalos available propose

Only untouchables are Vanek, Miller, Pominville, Hecht, Rivet, Lydman

Propose any trades for anyone or package

Sabres need a top 1/2 Center, a conistent veteran scorer, More Physical edge

I will start off with this

To Buffalo-Jared Boll, Olli Tollefson

To Columbus-Ales Kotalik

The Cappitals are widely believed to be shopping Nylander.

Nylander ($4.875M in 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11)
...for...
Afinogenov ($3.333M in 2008-09, UFA in July)

Caps need cap space and to clear up payroll in the outyears.

Buffalo needs veteran scoring. Nylander is a top-six veteran playmaker, and the Sabres have scoring on the wing.

It's to the point where I have to write notes to myself to remind me that it exists.

He's obviously playing like he has one...which is another reminder.

Why is Hecht on the untouchable list?

I have to assume you just forgot about Roy, because he's the Sabres second best player behind Vanek.

Anyways, I'd propose:

To EDM: Drew Stafford
To BUF: Ladislav Smid

I'm assuming that Roy isn't on there because to get a #1C back, Roy might have to go the other way.

Roy is definitely not untouchable and neither are Pominville and Hecht. Only untouchables are Vanek, Miller, and Lydman. Maybe Guastad too.

To me the only untouchables are Vanek and Miller. Anyone else can go because to get something good you have to give something good.

As mentioned just afterwards, there is Nylander's NMC, designed to prevent a guy from getting traded to undesirable locales, or for any other reason, for that matter.

I've mentioned this one before:

Byfuglien for Connolly.

Once Connolly returns from his rib injury, that is.

VAN
Kevin Bieksa [D] (3 yrs @ 3.75 avg --UFA 2011)
Mason Raymond [LW] (2 yrs @ 0.883 avg --RFA 2010)

BUF
Craig Rivet [D] (3 yrs @ 3.5 avg --UFA 2011)
Drew Stafford [RW] (1 yr @ 0.984 --RFA 2009)

----
Buffalo gets their "edge" player in Bieksa, while Vancouver gets a legitimate scoring threat in Stafford. Rivet/Raymond thrown in for value & cap hit balancing.

Thoughts?

What the hell are you smoking, man? Roy's been lousy this year, yeah, but that's an awful deal. Plus it's in division, which is just a non-starter. Sabres wouldn't do that in this second, next second, or any second.

While it would be nice to drop some of the RW depth for depth in other areas, the Sabres likely won't be trading Rivet since they just got him and named him captain. Also, they could really use a center coming back instead of a LW.

EDIT:

I'd like to add that I think something centered around Tallinder for Reinprecht would benefit both teams.

Roy probably ought to be untouchable for the simple fact that we so badly lack centers that the goal ought to be to add them, not subtract them. Roy is still at least a legit second-line center; I'd rather hang on to him.

Pominville is this team's most movable asset; as much as I like him, he should be shipped out if it means acquiring another quality center.

Phoenix could definitely use a top-4 defenseman like Henrik Tallinder, although he hasn't really been playing like one this year, and I think swapping Reinprecht for Tallinder is a fair deal.

I would be worried with the lack of experience up front for the Coyotes though. You'd have Doan and Jokinen, yes, but you'd be putting a lot of pressure on Turris, Boedker, Mueller, Tikhonov, Carcillo, Hanzal, Lisin and Porter (all of them are rookies or sophomores). Add to that the fact that Jokinen cannot carry a team to the playoffs, and you have to wonder if Phoenix is looking to unload one of it's only 3 experienced forwards.

How about this - Afinogenov and Tallinder for Reinprecht and Sauer. Buffalo obviously adds a lot of grit to it's lineup, Phoenix gets someone who can produce offensively along with an upgrade on defense. Reinprecht can play C or W, similar to Hecht, only grittier. What do you guys think?

I would think a little added from Phoenix (prospect/picks). Tallinder has the most trade value of the bunch.

But Phoenix is loaded on the RW so Max might not fit.

Tallinder for Sauer and Reinprecht might work.

Buffalo could move Max in a separate deal.

I'd be happy to get a 3rd pairing defensemen signed for 4 more years to a cap friendly deal. Reinprecht is only a stop gap in Buffalo, but might be the kind of wake up move that gets this team going.
