to OTT: Bouwmeester, Weiss

to FLO: Spezza, Vermette, Schubert

could work out for both:

Heatley - Weiss - Alfredsson
Foligno - Fisher - Winchester
Ruutu - Kelly - Donovan
McAmmond - Bass - Neil

Bouwmeester - Kuba
Phillips - Volchenkov
Picard - Smith

Stillman - Spezza - Horton
Booth - Vermette - Zednik
Peltonen - Campbell - Dvorak
Frolik - Kreps - Olesz

Allen - McCabe
Ballard - Schubert
Skrastins - Boynton

who's the better team after such a trade ?

Weiss could very well be our captain, he isn't going anywhere.

Weiss and Bouwmeester for Spezza could be a fair deal for both team.

The Panthers could build their offense around Spezza (and Horton) and their defense around Ballard.

The Sens finally get the dominant d-man they are looking for and they also get a really good center who would fit well in their system.

No. We're not trading Spezza. We have no one to play centre otherwise.

Spezza is NOT going to Florida.

It'll be Vermette, Lee, conditional 1st or just a 1st, should it happen.

No other team in the league would trade Bouwmeester for this but then again it is Florida

i'm sure Florida can get better offers than that from other teams.

seriously though, there's no way bouw is traded for that. we lose a guy who leads the team in points and the league in ice-time. Not to mention a puck-moving defenceman (who are at a premium right now) for a top 6 forward, a decent prospect and a 1st rounder? I sure as hell hope not. Martin has to be asking for a no.1 center.

I know what you're trying to do. Good one.

I don't really see Montreal going after Bouwmeester and Florida will probably ask for alot.

With that being said, I'm sure some teams can make some pretty good offers for him. Much better than Vermette, Lee and a 1st. Just my opinion of course.

I'm sure Florida can get a better forward than Vermette in a deal for Bouwmeester.

Probably can, but without a prospect and a 1st round pick

Any other team in the league and I'd agree with you. I think Vermette would be in the deal (which I don't think has any legs at all, for the record) because Jacques Martin <3 Vermette.

You're right though, to get Bouwmeester and only give up one roster player (who isn't even considered an impact player - or even a legitimate secondary threat at this point) is a tad far-fetched.

If Florida does this, it would be on par with the Luongo deal IMO - and we all know how well the Panthers did with that one.

Higgins, McDonagh and one 1st? ... I mean, you guys should jump on that. Apparently it's a steal.

Personally, I don't want to give up Ottawa's package or more and then give up $7M+ per year to a grossly overrated player. I'd stop at $5M and 2 decent trade pieces + a free key chain if they want it. Any more than that is paying for Bouwmeester hype, not performance.

I know that he probably could play that position as any player could, but is Vermette a center though? Jacques Martin has been quoted not long ago saying that he's looking for a centerman...

If Spezza is involved, there would need to be more, quite a bit more, coming from Florida than just J-Bo.

J-Bo,Vokoun for Spezza, Gerber. The salaries match, Bouw and Gerber potential UFAs, Spezza and Vokoun signed long term. Florida needs a center, Ottawa a goalie. Good chance Bouw would sign in Ottawa, almost none in Florida. Vokoun, at least temporarily, has lost his spot to Anderson. Florida gets a first line center signed for the next 7 seasons for a top blueliner who will leave at the end of the season and their current second string goalie. Ottawa moves Vermette back to his natural position of center to fill in for the loss of Spezza.

You my friend are making a lot of sense. I think that this trade would help both teams.
