It also includes Valiquette going the other way.

Great deal, Its worth a try to make the playoffs. This could mean the end for Salo.

Wow! Poor Jussi, he must be getting confused as to which jersey to wear. I'm surprised that NYR made this deal, they've been complaining about their goaltending with Dunham in net, how does it get better with Valiquette instead of Markannen? Ok, who NOW says that Lowe isn't doing anything?

I think this guarantees a Salo trade - which after last night Im happy to see. There are better ways of spending that kind of money. Juice was an awesome backup and Conks was great here before he got hurt so I think its a good thing.

Nedved gives us the freakin centre weve been begging for! This should be an interesting end to the season!

Lowe made a move? I feel dizzy...

Nedved has talent. Weve got a wing and a prayer.

Welcome back Jussi.

This is a great deal, no other way to put it.. while I'm not sure if it will be enough to vault us into a playoff spot, Nedved is still under contract for next season. We essentially send the Rangers back the 2nd rounder the gave us for Markannen so the deal is Nedved for Helminen + 8th. Nedved will probably jump right on to our top line with Dvorak and Torres..

LOVE...LOVE...LOVE this deal.

Lowe....

Slats even did ok on this one.

Nedved helps us NOW...injecting more offence and instant, proven chemistry with Dvorak. Markannen...we know exactly what we are getting with him, and this could certainly spell the end for Tommy as well...once Conks is healthy we have three NHL goalies that have to clear waivers. Lowe doesn't like those kinds of situations as we know...

Helminen is expendable with the emergence of Bishai. Valley wasn't going to play here anyway, and we should have a spare 2nd because of Leetch.

Lowe just added a first line center without giving up anything off the roster. Nice.

Smyth-Horc-Pisani
Torres-Nedved-Dvo
Moreau-Oates-Hemsky
Chimera-Bishai-Laraque

I like it.

Markannen starts against STL...heard it here!

Another thing to consider, Nedved provides the perfect bridge at center till Pouliot, Niinimaki + Brodziak are ready to step into the lineup.. our depth at center actually looks really good now (Nedved, York, Horcoff, Stoll, Reasoner and Oates). York might be able to return to the wing on his return to the lineup..

Might we see a Dvorak, Nedved, Hemsky line? I like the sounds of that.

5 million per team option AFAIK.

If not the top line, definitely the second! I can't believe Lowe just added a top sixer for nothing. I am shaking.

That made my day. Good job Lowe! This means the end of Salo and we'll probably run a two goalie system like Minnesota. Both Markkanen and Conks have shown the ability to play. So where does this leave our lines?

Smyth - Nedved - Dvorak
Torres - Horcoff - Hemsky
Moreau - Stoll - Pisani
Chimera - Oates - Laraque

Bada ba ba ba....I'm lovin' it!

It certainly addresses the extreme weakness at center and in net. I wish they had made the deal about a month ago, but I'm not going to ***** about it either.

Helminen's hot streak and rep as a quality 2 way player make this bittersweet, but the Oilers had certainly stockpiled enough picks that the 2nd rounder won't hurt that much.

Is there any possible way this team can keep Nedved beyond this season?

Oh just wait until York comes back in a week... we've been scoring like crazy in the last 3 games, maybe we can improve that??

Isn't Nedved signed beyond this season? If not, we should have some extra cash floating around from losing Oates and Salo (even if he resigns, it will most likely be for less).

Oates and Salo combined will pay for Nedved's 5 million next season if we pick up his option.

good deal that had to be done, no roster players going the other way
it addresses the offensive center and the goaltender situation.
if Salo faulters then we've Jussi and Conks. might open the door for another trade involving Salo???
hard to lose Helminen but Nedved makes us better now, not 3 years from now.

I'm impressed. way to go Lowe. sure it's a big contract to take on but we'll worry about that next season, oh wait, the CBA will take care of that. :p

Absolutely shocking deal. I'm completely blown away. I don't understand how the team trades Jussi for financial reasons and then decides to bring him back at the end of the season though. Combined with the fact that there is no way that they're going to carry four goalies, and that Salo, Maarkanen and Conklin can't go down, and I'm not sure if Moss can either, Salo must be on the way out, and soon. So long Tommy! I have no idea who the hell wants him though. One question though in terms of what we're giving up...does this essentially mean that Edmonton gets the Leetch compensatory pick for Helminen and Valiquette and a second? With 15 games of Nedved thrown in? Unbelievable...
