Redden vs. Rozsival

Which defensemen would you rather the Rangers dealt?

A couple of you may have seen my proposal in the trade board the other day, between the Stars and Rangers:

Avery, Lundqvist and 2010 1st

for

Redden and Callahan.

Some Rangers fans responded fairly positively towards this idea, although they would prefer to lose Prucha or Dawes rather than Callahan. Understandable.

But I'd like to hear what you guys think about Redden and Rozsival, and which one you'd rather see moved, either to Dallas or anywhere.

Is there anyone else you would take besides Callahan? I would rather keep him on the Rangers considering his role and the way he is playing this season.

Subtract Callahan. Add Dawes. Deal.

We don't want Avery. But If we had to get rid of one of the two it'd be Redden, easily.

Redden, Dallas said they wanted to sign him over the summer, I think it's him and not Rozy they want.

I'd also get rid of Redden just for the fact that his contract is longer then Rozsival's and he takes up 1.5 million more.

Redden for me, simply because he makes 1.5 mill more a season and is signed longer.

Agreed. After reading Chris Botta's (Islanders beat writer) blog entry about Avery/Rangers management, he's not coming back.

As far as moving one of the D, I think in July Redden/Rozi actually would bring a fair return, so I'd wait til then to move them (unless you really need cap space for Sundin, but I think if Sundin is coming, he's signing for ~5mil and we only need to move Prucha/Kalinin)

Why would Sather sign both of these guys in the summer to multi year contracts when he's fully aware that he needs to take care of the future of the Org. type players like Zherdev, Dubinsky, Korpokoski..etc.. It doesn't make sense not unless Sather doesn't plan on getting rid of either defense-men. He knew after making those signings, there would be some tight salary cap issues to come the following summer.

Perhaps he expected the salary cap to continue to rise.

Yeah, I heard about Dallas going after Redden as well; I think Hull even went so far as to say that the Stars free agent most wanted list was Redden followed by Avery.

Probably a good why he'll be demoted in the coming days, lol.

Personally, I'd prefer Redden over Rozsival as well, provided Dallas could make it all fit under the cap.

And I included Callahan to the deal because he's young, cheap, and a right handed shot.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/roster/?hubname=nhl-stars

Note the distinct lack of healthy right handed shots among Stars forwards, especially considering Lehtinen's still down and out.

I'd do that deal, though i'd prefer dawes or prucha instead of callahan.

btw what do we have to add that you make it a 09 1st?

Redden

He's older
He makes more money
He's signed for longer

Avery, Lundqvist and 2010 1st

for

Redden, Rissmiller and Prucha

Clears approximatley 4.5 million off the Rangers books.

We don't want Avery back, and there's no chance he's coming back. From inside sources of the Rangers (I'd consider Steve Zipay way up there in knowing his stuff).

Staal.

If Dallas trades their 1st in the upcoming draft, I'm driving down to Dallas myself to shove a hockey stick up Hull's ass. Sideways.

Dallas can't afford to take on that much salary at once, I don't think.

I think Modo is doing this trade prop if the Rangers are going to sign Sundin. The Rangers would take Avery back (and w.e else they get) for one of the dmen and then send him to the minors to dump his salary....

So essentially we are looking at

Redden/Rozy and Callahan

for

Lundqvist and a 2010 1st

I would not trade for Avery. Don't want him. And I believe there is zero chance we'll get him.

However, I would be interested to trade Redden, either soon in order to make room for Sundin, or in the future to make room to sign our RFAs. Glad to hear Dallas wanted him. Heck, if we can get something of value for him (and without taking on long term salary), I'd say try to trade him now even if we don't sign Sundin. If the cap goes down, I want to have space to give our RFAs a raise.

Maybe thats the case right there but now if I'm another GM I just wait for the availability of Dubi, Zherdev, Korpedo, as well as other young Ranger talent and give them offers (that Sather could now not afford) instead of trading players for over paid high priced defense-men unless I'm really that desperate and absolutely need one of these guys to make a run at the Cup.
