If PHX contracts

If the Coyotes were to cease operations this summer. And all of their players were placed into a dispersal draft. Which would you want if you were the habs? Here is how I would rank their Top 30 non UFA's.

1) Shane Doan
2) Peter Mueller
3) Olli Jokinen
4) Kyle Turris
5) Ed Jovanovski
6) Mikkel Boedker
7) Viktor Tikhonov
8) Ilja Bryzgalov
9) Keith Yandle
10) Zybnek Michalek
11) Kevin Porter
12) Kurt Sauer
13) Martin Hanzal
14) Enver Lisin
15) Maxim Goncharov
16) Matt Jones
17) Nick Ross
18) Jared Staal
19) Daniel Carcillo
20) Chad Kolarik
21) Josh Tordjman
22) David Schlemko
23) Daniel Winnik
24) Al Montoya
25) Chris Summers
26) Vladimir Ruzicka
27) Michael Stone
28) Brett Hextall
29) Benn Ferriero
30) Joel Perrault

Hard to believe they would just simply contract. Why wouldn't they move somewhere else? Even Winnipeg would be better...

Won't happen. The league won't contract unless two teams go down at once. Better odds of asking which superhero you would want on right wing : Superman or Wolverine ?

This is highly speculative, unlikely stuff, but if it were to happen, we'd draft low, and I'd aim for Ruzicka.

That's if the draft is done based on the previous year's final standings. What if it was done based on the amount of money that each team has contributed to Revenue Sharing. IE

1) team that contributed the most $ to revenue sharing
....
29) team that has taken the most $ from revenue sharing

Wolverine, he'd fit in with Komi and Pacioretty.

This was talked about on satellite hotstove and apparently the owners wouldn't want the dispersal draft to run the same way the regular draft was run in reguards to who gets the best players.

Personally I think the best markets should get the better choices, it's only fair to reward the fans for supporting their teams. That way the Canadian clubs get the best choices aswell.

Because their 'out' lease clause with the City of Glendale is in the $700 million dollar range. This is also the main reason why they can't attract new owners to the team.

The only way around this is for them to declare Bankruptcy.

heavy loans have been made by the league - advances on revenue sharing and guaranteeing loans - if the team claims bankrupt could they then break their lease and be one of the top creditors eventually taking ownership

One thing, if there was a dispersal draft, I suspect guys like Mueller, Hanzal, Turris, Boedker, Tikhonov, Ross and Staal go early. Doan and Jokinen are good players, but if it was reverse to standings, and I were the Islanders or whoever went first, I'd claim Mueller or Turris first.

Also, a moot point in the short term. The NHL won't let anyone die in season, even if the league has to step in and take over the team.

In the offseason, I fully expect Glendale to admit defeat and let them out. Hamilton or Kansas City will have a team next year, is my belief. Tampa might go too.

I think there is a better chance that they'd relocate, if anything.

Really! Dismantling it would be a shame, they have that young core that could be so good in 4-5 years.

Even if a team closes the doors, players with no movement clauses have to stay in that city for the duration of their contracts. Don't believe me, you can look it up.

I guess if that were the case in Phoenix many would have to take up cattle ranching or rattle hustling.

I agree, except that we have to make allowances for fanatical GMs who think turnarounds can be done in one off-season. Also, after the real jewels are gone, a mediocre team might take a veteran on the calculation that it could get more in a trade than it would by drafting a young-ish player. In other words, if I'm Gainey or some contender GM, there aren't many young players in that list who I wouldn't trade straight up for Doan -- which means that I would be willing to give more than the equivalent of Tikhonov or Staal, and probably others.

There's the Suns, Cardinals, and Diamondbacks. I'm sure a few guys could find jobs on one of those teams.

And then once all the seniors and rattlers are hustled they can all be placed in a large cage together at the state zoo.
