I would almost completely Agree with all of that, except maybe no Sanguinetti... but who else can you put there... so who knows. I think I'd also move Anisimov up to the 2nd line, but like I said, I agree with just about everything else.

I think he will have a tough time making it with every team having to be represented and Munroe pretty much guaranteed the slot for the Phantoms already.

Agreed. He's pretty damn good, but it's just the wrong year for him.

While Munroe certainly deserves to make the team, I don't necessarily think he is guaranteed to make it.

The one thing about the AHL All-Star game is that it's not a "true" All-Star game anymore, but more of a prospects game. With that in mind, Giroux, who is a legitimate NHL prospect that leads the AHL in rookie scoring is almost a lock while Munroe, who has a ceiling of career AHL'er or good European league goalie, may be on the outside looking in.

Bruinsfan, Dubnyk may be a big reason as to why the Falcons are winning, but I think it is highly unlikely that a goaltender with a 3.00 GAA and .903 save %age would be named an All-Star. Besides, given how much he has played this year, the best thing for him might be a few days off!

I rarely pay attention to the AHL all star game. Does every team need a representative? If so, no idea who will make it from the Amerks. I guess maybe Jason Garrison on defense or Janis Sprukts at center.

I am almost certain that every team needs a representative, although it might be one of those "unwritten rules".

I ask again, since when does the All-Star team only have 2 goalies? Is this something new for 08-09 (last year there were 3 goalies per team).

That said, I might give you Brust over Munroe (although he has played in 4 fewer games than Munroe), but LaCosta?

Syracuse needed an all-star. Who would you pick from their team? If you pick a forward who do you get rid of? If you pick a defenseman who would you get rid of? Then if you get rid of somebody from another team you then have to find a place for somebody else from that team.

Nikita Filatov

Filatov in the AHL All-Star Game for Planet USA is a no-brainer (just for the skills competion alone)

Thus the difficulties of All-Star selections.

That said Scott Munroe is 5th in the AHL in GAA (those ranked above him have played in 9, 10, 4 and 5 fewer games), 4th in save %age (those ranked above him have played in 10, 9 and 4 fewer games), 1st in wins and 5th in shutouts. I think it would be hard pressed not to include him in the game.

However, since I believe that there will be 3 goalies, it's possible that the Canadian goalies will be Munroe, Brust and LaCosta.

BTW, the whole Canada/Planet USA thing is tired and old. Can we please go back to Eastern Conference vs Western Conference already?

Replace Anisimov (Hartford) on Planet USA with Nikita Filatov (Syracuse), since Canada has Sanguinetti (Hartford).

Replace LaCosta (Syracuse) with Tyler Weiman (Lake Erie).

Filatov is arguably the most dynamic player in the AHL, and doing it at the age of 18 with NO North American Major Junior experience. He's the captain of the Russian squad at the World Juniors right now. If you've seen him play live this year, you can't argue against selecting him for the game. All-star games are for the fans, and Filatov is a world class talent who does things on the ice that will make your jaw drop. His teammates in Syracuse have been quoted as saying that one day, they'll be telling their grand kids about playing with him back in the day......

Why does LaCosta need to be replaced by anyone? Canada's 3 goalies can be Munroe, Brust and LaCosta.

Nobody thinks Ville Leino or Daniel Larsson deserve a spot?

FWIW, Bryan Helmer is Team Canada's captain, so he has to have a spot.
