Nathan Horton on the trade block?

http://www.ottawasun.com/Sports/Hock...58216-sun.html

What do people think? Could he be the tough big center we've been looking for?

2 30 goal back to back season in florida. Can play wing or center, reasonable long term contract 4mill/year.

Also, his value isn't at the highest now, as it hasn't been a stellar season so far.

What would it take?

yeah sure, they'll trade Horton for a 37 yo who's set to become UFA at season's end...

First off, i dont believe it for a second. He's signed longterm at around 4 million per, which seems like a great deal to me.

But if he were infact available, id be all over it! The Habs have alot of skill up front, but most of it is in smallish packages. Id start with Higgins, but we would clearly have to add to that.

Maybe if the GMs got together for a few drinks first.

I don't know why Florida would move him... Lang would definitely need to be in the deal to make it work for both sides, but it would take a couple more young players and maybe a pick.

But again... unless Horton is asking for a trade I don't know why he'd be on the block, they just locked him up for 4mill 6 years...

Bruce 'Malkin to LA' Garrioch.

Might as well post links from hockeytraderumors or ***********.

I've always liked Horton. A big talented center who hasn't come close to his full potential. I wouldn't mind him here.

Honestly.....and I'll be blasted for thinking it.....but I would seriously think about a package involving Plekanec.

Id try and move Higgins first, but if it meant getting Horton back id do it too.

As Would I. Pleks is great, but only when hes performing is he great. Horton IMO is a workhorse. He reminds me abit of A.Kostitsyn.

Thing is would trading pleks who has experience +roster or picks, for Horton make or break us? We want consistency, and Horton is still coming out of his shell. I agree get him while he hasn't caught fire, so the price is minimal, but still, It is a very risky move in our situation.

Anything from the Ottawa Sun holds little water unless otherwise reported somewhere previously.
Anyways I'll play this game.

Although I think Horton is good I wouldn't give up to much for him.

Latendresse and a 2nd would be all I'm willing to move

That's not going to be enough to get you Horton. You probably has to add Higgins on top of that. I will do it.

Ok so the first thing to do is pull a NY Ranger move.
Say your interested in Horton at all costs. Just like Kovalchuk and Sundin and anybody else of any interest at all. That you may be willing to trade anybody away to aquire Horton so anybody out there that may want Horton better be ready to out bid NYR in a massive overpayment for him. This will of course drive away anybody so NYR can pick up Horton for a 3erd rounder and a bag of pucks.
NYR have been doing exactly this for years now. The big "scare tactic"

Horton is good, I agree that we need this type of player, but right now I'm not ready to change our lineup to get him... Higgins name is surely going to come up but I don't think trading Higgins right now is a good idea.

He's a chronic underachiever. Could be as good as Doan but need to be pushed all the time.

He's a shooter so he doesn't play a "center" type game.

I'd trade Plekanec LONG before Higgins. Higgins doesn't disappear at playoff time and he can contribute in other ways than offense.
