When you check the standing on NHL.com

I always wondered why the default page, when clicking on standings on NHL.com, was the division standings page. Does anyone here actually pay more attention to how the teams rank within their division, instead of the conference?

It's not a big deal, just wondering what people think.

Perhaps it's part of trying to create division rivalries?

Default changes to conference standings when the postseason draws near.

If you're a fan of a team in the NW, like I am, the division standings are probably more important. I'm don't like it when nhl.com switches the default to conference standings since the NW is always very tight.

As a fan of a team in the NW I disagree. As far as I am concerned, the 5 teams in the NW are competing against each other exclusively for 1 playoff spot. They are competing with every other team in the conference for 5 playoff spots.

I always check the Conference standings. I already know where my team stands within its division, plus you can tell by looking at the Conference standings.

I dont use NHL.com for anything really. If yahoo updated faster they would have the best standings page: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/standings

I usually go through both conference and division, and even sometimes league when I want to compare every team.

I go with Conference. Thankfully it's a drop-down menu, saving precious seconds that can otherwise be spent hexing the 1st place Boston Bruins.
