Bad News and Good News

First the bad...Justin Fletcher broke his hand and will be out for a while. It's too bad for The Rivs because he's a darn good AHL-level defenseman.

Now, the good news...Yan Stastny has been named Team Captain. Congratulations!

I was just looking at the stats. Holy crap Stasnty and Junland are doing awesome. Eller's doing very well, too. And wow is Palushaj doing horribly.

I read that Junland scored 2 goals, Eller one and Palushaj one in that game.

Both Junland and Eller are playing well enough to be called up. But, it will probably take one more injury apiece, to the forwards and defencemen before that will happen.

I will buy each Blues player a golf cart, then cross my fingers and hope history repeat it self.

I would think junland is next in line as he is outplaying bell and wagner in peoria. depending on the extent of carlos injury i wouldnt be surprised to see junland playing for the blues real soon.

per Eminian, pjstar.com

The Rivermen are struggling to score, and that’s where their youth, and health, has been showing. Rookie Lars Eller has improved every game and looks like an emerging star.

With Armstrong out and (I'm assuming) Stastny having to go through re-entry waivers every time he's recalled, I wonder if Eller will be called up if Andy Mac can't go on Thursday.

It's possible but if the Blues were willing to risk Stastny on re-entry waivers last time, why wouldn't they be willing to risk him again for Thursday's game? Nicholas Drazenovic has also had a very good start to the season and I wouldn't be surprised if he earns a call-up at some point as well. It would be cool to see what Eller could do in the NHL but I'd be surprised if they call him up this soon.

A couple things about The Rivermen:

1. Sonne score his first professional goal on Thursday night
2. Team toughness is good, but The Rivs have some lopsided
toughness until two-way player Armstrong comes back. In the past
two games, Peluso, Love AND Reaves played. ONE of those guys
is enough, yet The Rivs are lining up 3 heavyweights, although
Reaves still may be just a mid-heavy, not sure yet. Coach Payne
needs to stop playing so many fighters in the same game.

You might want to move this over to the prospects thread.

Rivermen call up right wing from ECHL Alaska

The Peoria Rivermen called-up right wing Matt Stefanishion from the ECHL’s Alaska Aces on Tuesday and signed him to an AHL tryout contract.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder will help cover the Rivermen up front, as they open a three-game, four-night road trip Wednesday in Houston.

Stefanishion played 15 games in the AHL with Hartford last season, and also had 218 penalty minutes -- and 24 goals -- in the ECHL over 55 games with Fresno and Alaska.

It looks like Sonne may have adjusted to the AHL and is starting to put up some points. Has anyone seen him play this year in Peoria and what are your thoughts?

Stefanishion is a pretty good professional ice hockey player. He's got that scorer's mentality. But let's see if it translate to The AHL level.

I am going to the game this Saturday in Chicago against The Wolves. I plan to check out Junland, Palushaj and Sonne.
