I do love seeing these vets with 2-way contracts. That's some nice depth for the NHL team.

I'd love getting Eminger on a two-way deal. Could be a nice steal for us if we get any D injured.

Sterling-Hensick-Cracknell
Grachev-McRae-Nesbitt
Porter-Nigro-Shattock
Hagel-Sonne-Della Rovere
Reaves
(Polacek-Barriball-Peluso)

Maybe Shields, Polacek, Barriball and Peluso start the year in Alaska

(Inserted Gannon for Boyle)
OK, now Cheechoo enters the crowded Peoria forward group.

Assuming Reaves as extra F in StL.

Sterling-Hensick-Cheechoo
Grachev-McRae-Nesbitt
Porter-Nigro-Cracknell
SDR-Sonne-Shattock

or if Grachev at C:

Sterling-Hensick-Cheechoo
Porter-Grachev-Nesbitt
SDR-McRae-Cracknell
Hagel-Nigro-Shattock

Hard to believe all these not having a starting spot:
Barriball - RW
Peluso - RW
Polacek - RW
Sonne - C

EDIT: Mink has signed with Hershey per AHL.com (not that Peoria had any room for him now).

Why not just give us the Calder Cup now and cancel the season?

from pjstar.com

ECHL Alaska has hired Rob Murray as its new head coach. Murray spent the last three seasons as head coach at AHL Providence, which missed the playoffs in the last two years. NHL parent club Boston fired him at the end of the 2010-11 season. ... Rivermen assistant coach Drake Berehowsky was believed to be interested in the Alaska job. Another possible fit for him -- and the Rivermen as well -- might be ECHL Gwinnett, which presently has no coach or AHL parent club. ...

Eminian has said that Peoria may not renew its ECHL affiliation with Alaska

Why do people want to put Derrick Nesbitt on the second line, with Grachev? He's never scored 20 goals or 50 points in The AHL. He's spent a bunch of years in The ECHL. He didn't score all that much in juniors. His being in the top 6, is keeping Cheechoo and Barriball of the Top 9. I can see Polacek starting off in Alaska. But I'd like to see Barriball play in Peoria. I think he's certainly ready for The AHL.

Hagel is a defenceman.

I see it like this:

Sterling-Hensick-Cheechoo
Grachev-McRae-Barriball
Porter-Nigro-Cracknell
Nesbitt-Sonne-Della Rovere
Shattock-Peluso

To me, Nesbitt has earned a second-line spot. He was a top-flight college player, posted good numbers in the ECHL, and produced for Peoria last year.

Nesbitt deserves a shot - the younger guys need their chance also, but they may have to earn it as well like he did, maybe in Alaska first.

I agree.

McRae and Barriball seemed to be developing some chemistry at Traverse City, so I'd expect to see them get some chances together in Peoria to build on that.

I'd send one of Shattock or Peluso to Alaska to start the year so as to get maximum playing time for his development, as opposed to sitting in the press box at Carver.

If I were the Blues/Rivermen, I would have pitched an affiliation agreement to the Chicago Express about five minutes after the ECHL announced the franchise. I know the Blues/Rivermen have a long history with Alaska, but they're so remote physically from the "core" teams of the franchise that an assignment there can easily become an exile. Sending a guy to play in Hoffman Estates isn't exactly consigning him to the wilderness, and in an emergency, he's a two-hour car ride from Peoria.

Columbus beat the Blues to the punch there, however...

The Blues/Rivermen need to find an ECHL partner located closer to their footpirnt, and Gwinnett (GA) is the only team anywhere near the Illinois/Missouri area that isn't already affiliated with someone. If the Gwinnett option isn't taken, I would encourage the Blues' new ownership group (whomever it ends up being) to strongly consider buying one of the troubled ECHL franchises and relocating it to St. Charles.

One factor in favor of Alaska is that they are a great organization. Players learn to be professionals there in a championship atmosphere.

Development of NHL players is actually very minimal in the ECHL, so I don't see an NHL ownership group taking on the added expense of owning their own ECHL team. Do many NHL teams own ECHL franchises? (I don't know.)

I can't think of ANY ECHL franchises owned outright by an NHL team.

Actually Hagel now plays LW. I've seen him listed as D, so he's likely played both. Last year he was listed as LW on the AHL site and when Peoria signed him. In a recent interview, he described his potential role as a "4th line player".

I put Nesbitt in the 2nd line as he is an offensive player and not a defensive specialist. He put up very good numbers the first half of last season, but then had a broken jaw, missed several games, and never played as well with the cage after that.

Only saw Barriball play twice last year, so I didn't have much to go on. After seeing the Taverse City Tourney I'd say he does have a chance of starting ahead of Nesbitt. Also, understanding that Barriball was older than almost everyone there so he should look good.

Can definitely see Polacek and Peluso in Alaska.

Peoria has several undersized skill guys so its an issue to fit them all in: Sterling, Hensick, Barriball, Nesbitt, Polacek (first 2 are likely on line 1)

Yes this is my attempt at humorous sarcasm.

Great interview with Brendan Burke, Rivermen broadcaster.

Thanks Randall Ritchey - nice job.

(By the way, what do we have to do to get Burke to replace Kerber in St. Louis? Come on, JD.)

The only way I'd approve of Kerber being replaced on the radio by Brendan Burke (who does a great job for the Rivermen) is if Kerber and Chase got moved to TV to replace John Kelly, and if the Rivermen hired me to take Brendan's job.

I've heard a lot of play-by-play guys over the years and to me Kerber is just not a play-by-play guy. He can't keep up with the action. There are times when he rambles on for several shifts without describing what is happening on the ice.

Play-by-play guys are supposed to describe the play. (Sorry for rambling)

I think Kerber is awesome on the radio, especially after listening to a few other teams. He doesn't try to go crazy and scream every goal. I see him eventually moving to T.V. though as I think it would suit him better.

Yea, I love Kerber. He doesn't go nuts, but he makes the game exciting. He sounds legitimately excited about the play going on. I think it would be great to see him get a TV gig.
