He wore #28 in Juniors and when he was called up last year, Kukkonen wore #28. Some people (name Twentytwo on NHL connect) speculated that they made Kuks change the number, or politely requested it, before training camp started because they expected Giroux to make the team and he requested the number, him being a good enough prospect for that to actually come true. He already wore the #28 in training camp, at least he was listed as such in the Camp Guide.

The #56 he wore last year is easy to explain:
56 = 2 * 28

Another interesting number from the booklet: Andi Nödl wore #41 in camp. When he was called up the number was taken by Alberts who was brought in by trade, so he changed it around into #14.

Let him finish in the AHL...it's the best thing for his development. Just like JVR probably playing a year for the Phantoms next season...it makes the transition generally more smooth, unless the player is a freak of nature (which JVR very well could be).
I agree that he should play with Carter whenever he does play full time, which I hope is next year.

As for JVR, its not like the guy was playing juniors and was drafted at 18 and tried to make the jump. He played 2 years in college, he will be with the flyers next year if i had to guess. Its a tougher transition for an 18 year old into the NHL out of juniors than a 20 year old out of college.

It wont hurt his development to bring him up, give him a 5-10 game try and if it doesnt work out send him back down for good. What hurts development is bringing a guy up and dropping him back down 3-4 times in a year, doing it once wont hurt him at all.

good for him, he deserves it. give him 2-3 games, then send him back down and then bring him up to play 5 or so more games near the end of the year

So if he goes on a tear in 3 game notching 5 goals then he should go back? If giroux proves he can take it at this level there is no reason that he should be sent down. He's worked hard in the AHL to get up to speed, he deserves a fair outing with the flyers

absolutely agree with this.... if he doesn't look out of place , then keep him no need to keep babying him. Give him a 10 game look and decide from there. Even if he just comes up with 3-5 points in those 10 games, keep him if he can contribute.

There's nothing wrong with him staying as long as he gets the minutes and contributes offensively. If he becomes another Nodl, he needs to go back down.

Better and better every game. Needs to up his confidence IMO and shoot the puck more, but I think that's a normal rookie symptom, he'll get over it and he definitely has the ability to score.

He looked great with Richie, then again, what winger hasn't? He'll be fun to watch for the next couple of game when Gags is out.

It's so hard to picture where Giroux will fit when Danny and Gags come back. If he keeps this playing up, it would be such a great asset to keep him up here. But I don't think sticking him on the 3rd line is a good idea and you cannot break up Harts/Carts/Lups

Once Giroux starts shooting more, he will be great. As a rookie in his first game on the 1st line, he was always trying to pass. He seemed liek he was afraid to shoot, and I can understand why. You could visibly see Richards tellingf him to shoot more

I don't see whats wrong with putting him on the third line. He's going to have Briere with him. Third line of Giroux-Briere-Upshall. Thats looking mighty impressive.

Gagne(40)-Richards(30)-Knuble(30)
Hartnell(25/30)-Carter(50)-Lupul(30)
Giroux(15)-Briere(20)-Upshall(15)
Asham(7)-Metropolit(7)-Cote(2)

Possibles

If thats not the best Offensive line up in the league. I don't want to meet the team that is.

For the third line to work, Giroux is really gonna need to shoot more. I have confidence that in time he will though...

Idk about that. I dont know why briere is considered such a great playmaker...ive been far more impressed with his finishing ability and goal scoring then his passing since hes been a flyer. Giroux on the other hand makes some unbelievable passes...i think him feeding briere would be a pretty productive line.

Could work in their favour. Upshall digs, Briere shoots, Giroux passes.

Well I was pretty much baseing it off of his career stats so far. Like other said though, that is a really small line
