Here's another.....

Yes, we realize that you'd like to trade us "insert washed up 3rd liner with QMJL prospect here" for Ilya Kovalchuk and Bryan Little. We may be Atlanta fans, but we know this is a stupid trade. Please, do not make such offers.

Just so you stop wondering, a Thrasher is a bird...specifically the Brown Thrasher is the state bird of Georgia which is why we have that little bird holding a hockey stick on our jerseys. Thanks

I'm moving to South Carolina in a few years and plan on attending as many ATL games as possible.

what are your thoughts on Nathan Oystrick? Does he have a future in the NHL?

Yes, he can be a decent bottom pairing D for many teams in the NHL. He has a little trouble in his own zone from time to time, but decent speed and decent passing skills and a fair amount of sandpaper to his game.

I agree with this. He probably won't be anything spectacular, but would be good for ~20 points a year, maybe break double digits in goals one year with the right PP. I don't think his future is with ATL, though. The Thrashers just have too damn many offensive defensemen (Bogosian, Enstrom, Hainsey, Salmela).

just wondering how Eric O'Dell did this year? Did he take a step back or was this expected after his injury?

Coyotes fan here

I like this idea and its even being talked about at our thread in the Coyotes Financial and ownership situation thread.

If I may I would like to share some others with you that can be used in the FAQ part of this or so.

1. We know so many of you who are anti growth and anti evolution can't stand having hockey teams played in cities where it hardly snows and even has palm trees in the USA.

Yet you have no problem with have having an NHL team in a Canadian city(Vancouver) that has palm trees and gets less than 2 inches of snow every year in the non mountain part of the city.

2. We know many southern teams have received money in the form of revenue sharing in the past but we know there's a double standard when non southern teams get it including for Canadian teams the Canadian Assistance Plan.

Also we know good your geography skills are by lumping all sunbelt teams as southern teams but try to study geography.
PHoenix and Dallas are part of the "SouthWest" and Anaheim LA and San Jose are apart of "The West".

Hope any of this helps!

Best of luck to Atlanta this season!

If Jim Balsillie tries to get a hold of this team next, we will be on your side!

Don Wadell?

What is your opinion on him? I dont think he is a terrible GM, nor do i think he is great. He has made some good moves and some bad.

Do Thrasher fans like him? Would you like to see someone else run the organization? Or are you finally seeing the light. Because i think Atlanta is turning the corner.

He has been better recently with getting Kubina for nothing and signing Nik. The last draft was very good. Of course, his future is linked to some superstar resigning with the team.

i'm undecided on waddell. a lot of the moves people blame him for are hindsight, looked good at the time, and aren't as bad as a lot of people say they are, that said he's had a decade to build a contender with very high draft picks and failed to do it. sure things like heatley, nurminen, lehtonen etc. are out of his control and there have been reports that he was heavily pressured by ownership to make the playoffs in 07, leading to the tkachuk for metropolit and picks trades and the coburn for zhitnik trades(again not as bad as many say they are). he's been pretty successful in the first round drafting and has had a few solid late round picks (exelby, enstrom etc.). he's been good with waiver pickups especially lately and he's made some great and some bad trades.

i think his biggest problem has been a lack of funds, now the ownership is finally allowing him to spend and we are seeing the benefits of that.

i think since the hossa trade he has been one of the better gms. he has drafted well the last two years aside from a questionable leville pick and he has traded well. we have built a stable of very good prospects that we could build a team out of including morin, klingberg, o'dell, mahcacek, holzepfel, kulda, postma and a few more longshots. you'll have a tough time convincing me he has been a bad gm the past few years.

many people will say this is all the work of rick dudley, a former chicago assistant gm who is now our assistant gm. i disagree and feel this is only a small portion and feel that dudley doesn't have near the responsibility for the turn around that many think he does.

unfortunately the fact that waddell is doing the right thing and not mortgaging the franchise by giving kovalchuk 10 million plus might end up being the final nail in his coffin. justifiably or not he get's the blame for the failures of the franchise.

DW has been pretty good trading, mediocre drafting, and pretty much piss poor at signing UFAs. That's not a recipe for success. DW has been doing better, but I don't think wanting a change at this point is unfair.
If it were 3 or 4 years into is time w/ the organization, then turning the corner would certainly be enough to keep his job, but a decade and 3 head coaches (4 if you want to count McCrimmon's trial run) with only 4 playoff games should get you canned.

I'm no Waddell hater, I just think the architect of a decade of meh hockey should be given the opportunity to practice his craft elsewhere. The future's been this bright before.

He has struggled this season but won't be waived. He also has a ntc and he is very reluctant to leave atlanta according to those people itk.
Maybe he waives it for one last shot at a cup. Just curious whom do you see from the bruins being traded for him.

Best thread I ever read on HF.

I'm rooting for your team to make it in this year and shock the hell out of the overconfident arrogant goons that are the Caps. All except Scott Walker and Joe Corvo of course but thats not of their doing. Yeah, Im a homer and proud of it. Arent you guys supposed to love NASCAR too because you're south of the mason dixon line like us?

the funny thing is, everyone i know hates nascar. i live in a pretty urban area(about 45 minutes southwest of atlanta) but still you would expect more if you had the opinion that we all love nascar. there is a pretty big IRL following here though.

i'm of the belief that a much larger percentage of nascar fans are from the mid-west and the rural south(southern georgia, north florida, alabama) than the urban areas in the south like many people seem to think it is. this would be backed up by the large number of nascar drivers from the mid west

That is funny cuz I dont even know where a race track is anywhere near Raleigh. Closest I think is Charlotte and in VA somewhere. I dont mean to spill secrets but they do like their NASCAR north of the border in Canada too but if they ever admitted that, what ammo would they have against us small nontraditional pathetically soft SE conference teams that dont deserve the NHL and no nothing about hockey?

Atlanta residents will never be fans of Nascar hahaha, It's a city, full of people not from Georgia.
Southern Georgia is a different story though hahaha, people love it there, and some Northern Georgia towns do too.

I actually don't mind it, but it's boring as hell to watch, not bad to attend. I'll always be a hockey fan first though.
