Doesn't make sense. He's been injured since Feb 10th (groin). A fourth is too much to give for him. He's better than Juneau, but only marginally.

Who is he? I don't know him...
If he's something close to Begin now that's cool...
but isn't a 4th rd overpaying...

Does roster size/waiver rules change after the deadline? They aren't expanded like in baseball, but teams carry extra bodies in the playoffs, would they have to waive a Kilger to make room for Dowd ? My assumption is that they like him backing Juneau/Begin more than Chad. I suspect that Gainey and Risebrough chatted about his health. I suspect that they can trust each other.

who cares about a 4th round pick ... the same guy that is drafted in the 4th round might have ended up in the 6th if the team would not have drafted him

When you have Dowd on your 3rd line, you're in trouble. Probably just a depth move, but again, a fourth is a lot, no ?

I see him on the 4th line, and Juneau in the press box.

dowd won a cup before with the devils in 95.
not much skill but is a depth player to say the least.
basically he's a defencive forward.

I don't know what to think about this trade. Maybe it's good but... I don't know him very much. All I know is he's 6-1,190Lbs. I have the feeling that when Bulis will return, he will play on the second line and Dags will be scratch or play on the fouth line/PP so I think the line-up with Dowd will be:

Kovalev-Koivu-Zednik
Bulis-Ribeiro-Ryder
Sundstrom-Juneau-Dowd
Langdon-Kilger-Ward
***Dackell-Kilger-Perrault(one of them will be trade)

Not bad at all...

TSN Scouting Report

Preseason projected role:
Dowd will again vie for one of the center positions on the Wild in 2003-04.

Assets:
Is versatile enough to be used in a variety of situations. Does a solid job at both ends of the ice. Plays with perseverance and determination.

Flaws:
Lacks bulk. Needs to continue to do all of the little things, since he's limited in his overall skill level.

Career potential:
Fourth-line center.

Gainey is trying to get more "character" onto a team that needs more players like begin to be successful in the playoffs. It's a well known fact that your character and grinding players can make or break your playoff success.
