Thrashers & Wild Talking

Quote:
"Something could be cooking between the Wild and Atlanta by the way. I was told two days ago from a source of mine in the league that the two teams were talking trade. Then, all of a sudden, Atlanta Thrashers GM Don Waddell appears and attends both Wild games in California. And during the first intermission, Waddell and Wild GM Doug Risebrough looked to be having a serious conversation."

Instead of trying to get rid of Kovalchuk they try to bring in Gaborik for him?

Gotta figure Lehtonen or Pavelec would be one of Atlanta's most tradable assets,

My thoughts would be something along the lines of..."Who the hell is going to feed them the puck?"

Little is nice, and I suppose he would be OK there but... there are so many holes on the Thrashers. How could they even afford to give up the necessary assets to land Gaborik?

Play off each other?

Call up Angelo Esposito and let them fly?

I have no idea

So what would it take to get Kovalchuk to Minnesota?

I'd say it starts with Brent Burns, ends with Bouchard, and includes many draft picks.

Something certainly is cooking between the two sides. But my guess is that it's not about either team's star player. Maybe Minnesota is interested in Jason Williams?

They seem like a poor match for anything other than a minor trade. Minnesota is set in goal and on defense, and that's where Atlanta's relative strengths lie.

Stands to reason that if there's a buyer/seller type of deal to be had that Minnesota are the buyers, but there aren't many Lemaire-type forwards on the Thrashers roster to be had are there?

I don't know exactly what it would take. Minny fans could probably gauge better what they feel their players' values are.

My best guess is that they wouldn't be willing to give up what it would take to get it done, aside from moving Gabby for Kovy (which would be bad move for Atlanta).

I expect this will be a fairly minor deal. I don't think ATL is getting Gaborik, it just doesn't make sense.

BTW, off topic, but how it seems like there are so few Wild fans around here. Aren't they pretty damn popular? Don't they sell out all their games? Where all the Minnesotans at?

All on the Wild message boards.

The deal I see most probable is a trade for your Jason Williams

IMO, not much to see here. Some sort of Gaborik/Kovalchuk deal doesn't really work - Minnesota wouldn't want to give up a ton to even it out and straight up it's a bad deal for Atlanta - and neither team has enough expendable assets (as in - not Burns, Koivu, Bryan Little, etc...) to deal for either one alone.

More likely it's a trade for Jason Williams, or maybe even Eric Perrin.

Might've been talking about which players they were looking at from certain teams (especially the team lower in the standings) in California. After all, both players do have oft-mentioned on the outs players frequently mentioned with regard to that team up the 5 Freeway. Comparing notes? Waddell checking out the other game because he made the long trek? Likely. Likely to be talked about in that fashion, nope.

Not really much to see here w/r/t those two teams. But Wild or Thrashers on one side and Kings or Ducks on the other? Maybe.

There's a small chance that I was referring to the fact that Gomez might have to be shipped out of New York to make room for Mats Sundin but the Rags are unlikely to find any takers.

But it was probably that I thought Gomez played for the Thrashers, yeah.

What the hell would Minny do with Lehtonen. The guy is injured every year all year, oplus they have Harding and Backstrom ( who I persoanally would take over Lehtonen and is becoming one of the better tenders in the league ).So start somewhere else. Little, Exelby and who ever else they ahve worth taking and a 1st rounder or 2.

Umm, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment. Otherwise known as sarcasm. Next time I will be sure to use one of these pretty little emoticons ...in the event that more clarification is needed.

I'm guessing Gaborik to ATL.
Waddell has publicly stated he's not talking trade over Kovi, while Kovi has said he wants to stay in ATL (believe it or not).
Gab would be amazing to see beside Kovi either way.

but i dont think atlanta has anything Minny would want, while keeping in mind the fact that ATL is rebuilding and shouldnt be tossing away picks/prospects.
Also, one expendable thing for ATL, goalies, is def. not a need for Minny.

maybe A willams/white based package?

Williams, Perrin, Christensen, and a 2nd (to start) for Gaborik.
