and you assume that was because we "didn't realize how good he was?" the organization has a history of being tight-lipped about their motives when they make moves, but it's speculated there was a hold-up in signing him...or that he may have outright asked for a trade. most of all, a spot was opened up for Hamhuis, and he's been more valuable to us than Skratch was, in terms of puck movement. At the time, I was steamed about the trade...but in hindsite, it turned out to be a good thing. We could use him NOW...but only because York is injured and we don't have anyone outside Eaton and Hamhuis who are mistake-free in their own end. We're having to play Andrew Hutchinson...who...while he has potential, is lagging behind in his defensive play.

What's Barnaby's contract status? Terms and amounts wise...

Boychuk has a couple more years of development before he makes the jump. The only prospect depth the Avs have is at the defensive position. I'd consider Boychuk for Barnaby and if possible wiggle a mid-round draft pick out of it as well. All depends on where Barnaby is contract wise in my mind.

Oh, and if most didn't hate the Avs for whatever reason before, this would likely push some people over the fence

Barnaby is a UFA at the end of the season. Moneywise he's more or less paid for as players don't get paid in the playoffs. If the Rangers had to add a pick or another player I would be willing to do that.

Maybe expand the deal?

UFA status means he's a rental obviously so I'd think the pick or additional prospect/player would need to be relatively significant. But as I said, Boychuk has some development to do and despite his talent could end up being a NHL failure. You never know.

just to update, someone said on the avs board that they heard pierre mcquire say he expects a barnaby to avs deal within the next 48hrs, but take the fool for what he is worth=not much IMO

also today the avs sent RW cody mccormick back to the farm.

and barnaby is playing vs the B's and not to sure if this is news worthy but he is wearing an "A", has he always worn an "A"?

i would do a boychuk for barnaby and 4th pick, seems reasonable.

what about a couple larger deals:

to col: simon, messier and barnaby

to NYR: boychuk, moore and macillister

or

to col: simon and barnaby

to nyr: moore, macillister and a 3rd

or

to col: dunham and barnaby

to nyr: boychuk and a 4th in 06-seems to be the new trend lol

anyways reasoning: moore's brother is a rags, he is what the rags need, young cheap foot soliders that play with an edge.

macillister does not fit in on the avs this year with the depth on d and surplus of tough guys, rags depth on d is decreasing and with mironov and malkahov both ufa, its going to become even less.

boychuk= good young tough d prospect, nuff said.

anyways???

who, oh u mean that guy who said the avs are going nowhere due to their goaltending, or that the avs are over rated on defence, no depth not realizing sauer and boughner were recently acquired, doesn't consider skrastins worth mentioning, or the guy who said kovalev was a sure thing last year as lacroix's big trade, or the same guy who said kolzig and gonchar would be a perfect fit yada yada ya....
i hate the guy but RIAL said he heard him for sure and i thought i'd pass that along,

but thanxs for the heads up man!
