Yuck.

Take out Warrener and I'll think about it.

We need a scorer who can finish too, not just score. But giving up Warrener is a huge step backwards for a defensively-minded team.

If Carter gets dealt, it'll be for a DP or prospect or a young player. Warenner doesn't qualify and Calgary would never let a native son like Warenner go in a deal like this.

Carter will not cost near as much as Warrener, but it will be more than a 3rd...

Counter-offer:

TO WSH: Gauthier
TO CGY: Carter, 3rd

Carter's value has dropped like a rock. And Warrener was the centerpiece of the Drury deal, which means he's close to untouchable.

Pass big time. You're not getting Warrener that cheaply. Throw in Witt and you might have something, but even then it's unlikely. Warrener is Sutter's prized jewel on the blueilne.

I think the Caps would certainly take Gauthier for Carter, with whatever picks were needed to even it out.

No kidding. At Carter's salary, $2.8 mil, and his production this year, I'd say Carter's value is around a 2nd/3rd round pick. Who knows if Washington will even re-sign the guy at that salary, he could very well become a UFA at season's end.

I don't think the Flames are interested in trading Warrener.

A more reasonable proposal would be:

To Cal: Carter, Detroits 1st, choice of Doig/Kiwi (the flames would HAVE to take one!)

To Wash: Gauthier, 3rd in '06 (Caps love 2006 picks b/c they are expecting a lockout and the 05 and 06 drafts being combined)

In REALITY it would be:

Carter for a 2nd

Sutter has talked about ADDING a veteran defenseman. Not trade his favorite player away.

What a cryptic comment. If you don't mean 'score' by 'finish', do you mean 'to have good fist pumping action after a goal'? Because Carter is good at that.

IMO the Caps would need to include Carter in a Witt or Kolzig deal to get any true value for him. They absolutely need to move these three guys before Tuesday to complete what they started.
