Decent pickup by the Buds, they didn't really give up anything of note. Leetch should help solidify the back end a bit but he has sure lost a step this season.

Damnit no!!!!
"Brian Leetch and a conditional draft choice from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Max Kondratiev, forward Jarkko Immonen, Toronto's first-round pick in the 2004 Entry Draft and the team's second-round pick in 2005."

is this a good deal. looks like a steal

This sucks. I like Leetch, why must he goto Toronto? Well, look at the last 24 hours for the Rags. They have traded away Leetch, Kovalev and nedved and got no roster players in return. The played last night, so in between games their roster will look way different. This has to be the biggest firesale in history, not even Washington can match it. The weird thing is, The Rangers took advantage of the washington firesale earlier lol.

What a deal by the Rangers, two very solid prospects - search the Leafs board for comments on them, very well regarded - as well as a 1st and 2nd rounder. Panic move by the Leafs, it'll make them better this year, but I still don't think Leetch is what they needed, plus they overpaid.

Carter plays for washington, but he could be next in that phonebooth firesale lol.

Immonen, Kondratiev a first and a second according to Sportsnet for Leetch and a conditional pick. That is ALOT to give up....

2 ways to look at it.

The Leafs gave up 4 items for one.

Or

The Leafs gave up 2 Picks and 2 Prospects (that odds are would never play with the team anyways) for Leetch...

A little much, but both of those Prospects are what I'd call, Dime a Dozen prospects.

One Comment..

Enjoy Leafs, you've just acquired one of the hardest working, classiest and still highly talented players in the game..

Wait until you see what he can do when he doesn't have to cover for 20 others..

Complete overpayment. Two decent prospects + a 1st / 2nd rounder (the 2nd is in a stacked draft year as well).

JFJ loses on Gonchar and then drops the ball on Leetch. Questions from a Toronto standpoint:

a) Why a 1st AND a 2nd? These draft picks kill the Leafs as they have an aging team and will need to rebuild in 3-4 years. I would have kept the 2nd.
b) Who the hell is going to play forward for the Leafs in 5 years? Their system is filled with d-men, but Immonen / Steen / Wellwood are their only 3 decent forwards.

Gonchar fetched Morrisonn, a 1st and a 2nd, which is fairly equivalent to Kondratiev, Immonen, 1st and 2nd.

Panic move by an inexperienced GM, made to satiate rabid TO fans assaulting the radio call-in shows.

JFJ gave up as much or more to get Leetch as Boston did for Gonchar...and I would take Gonchar 9/10 times based on age alone.

Silliness.

And they didn't even need a puck-rushing D-man.

I love not being a Leaves fan.

Immonen hasn't even made his way out of Europe, and Kondratiev couldn't stick with the baby Leafs. This is essentially 2 picks for Leetch.

A very solid trade for the Leafs. It allows them to have a guy out there who can suck up big minutes and push Berg down the depth chart.

Well at first it looks like alot from a Leafs perspective. A little disappointed about that. But the Leafs acquire arguably the best d-man on the market without giving up a roster player or any of their top handful of prospects.

Kaberle - McCabe
Leetch - Klee
Berg - Marchment

Nice pickup. The Leafs are in win now mode and need the cup sooner rather then later and getting a guy like Brian Leetch is a huge step in the right direction.

This is a pretty funny comment. When a Leaf fan posts something everyone rips them because everyone around here claims that the Leafs heavily overrate their players, but when it might benifit another team then you look towards the fans that overrate their players.

Washington wanted either Morrisonn or Coliacovo...Toronto wanted to get Gonchar or Leetch without giving up Coliacovo and thats what happened. Still overpayment by Toronto but they were able to get one of the guys they wanted without having to give up their #1 d-man prospect.
