Iginla Captain of Team Canada in 2010?

In my humble opinion there is no one else for the job. Sakic has shown he's too brittle to still be there, plus they would have to ban all snowblowers from the city!

I know it's early - I am just really excited!!!

So, please weigh in. Should it be Iginla? If not, then who? What would Iginla have to accomplish this season for his to be considered? Does he need a cup? If Thornton gets a cup this year, would he get the nod? Or Crosby even?

If Niedermayer decides to play and is selected as a member of Team Canada (and he will be a part of the team), then he's the most likely candidate to be captain. Iginla likely would be next in line.

I could also see the brass giving the C to Sidney Crosby, much like what happened back in 1998 when Lindros was given the C over Gretzky, Bourque, etc.

As long as Sakic(which he shouldnt) is not on the team then i believe the "c" should be given to iginla. Someone please tell me a captain better than those two guys in league. It would be a shame if he didnt end up with it.

Iginla has got the be the faovrite right now for the captaincy for Team Canada. Sakic is the only player I could see having it over Iggy.

I'll say it again - Scott Niedermayer is other player who could receive the captaincy, assuming that he plays next season of course. If he does play in 2009-10, he is virtually a lock to make Team Canada and, thus, be its captain.

If Niedermayer doesn't play or make the team (likely due to injury), Iginla would then most likely receive the C.

Why would Niedermayer be given the C over Iggy? His best years are already behind him, he is a minus player this year.

If Iggy is not named the captain, I would consider that a major insult.

While it wouldn't be a shock to see Niedermayer get the 'C' over Iginla but I also would say it wouldn't be a shock if Iginla got it over Niedermayer. I think at this point in time with all things considered Sakic and Iginla have to be the 2 front runners. Sakic if on the team is a given IMO, but should he not be there one has to consider the fact Iginla was chosen as captain of the western all-stars over the likes of Lidstrom & Niedermayer, while being an all-star captain is no more than an honour it does say alot about how the hockey world views his leadership abilities.

Nuck fan here.

Iginla would be a fine captain.

Im imagining Crosby and Iginla on the same line. UNBELIEVABLE.

Heatly Crosby Iginla (50goal scorer with iggy and crosby!!)
Gagne Lecavalier St.louis
Nash Thornton Getzlaf
Doan Spezza Carter

HOLY CRAP!

I could see Shane Doan getting the "C" as well. But since it's clearly based on +/- I suppose Gagne would be the front runner at this time.

I definitely don't even consider Niedermayer in the running for hte C at all. Sakic, Crosby and Iginla are the only candidates IMO.

Crosby would be the publicity stunt... and I seriously hope they don't do it. Sakic and Iginla would be the popular votes, and I think it could be close if Sakic is playing.

Really though... I was about ready to buy my 2010 jersey with the C on it until I found out we'd have to change our logo.

My vote for the first line is definitely Nash-Crosby-Iginla btw.
That... would be unreal.

The problem Canada had in 2006 was rewarding players for what happened four years before. They basically took the same team as they had in Salt Lake. That's where Team Canadas are kind of a boy's club. To me it's - what have you done for me lately.

Previous international experience is overrated. Take the players that are playing the best and are the healthiest at the time.

The mistake in 2006 was not taking Crosby and Phaneuf. Losing to Switzerland plainly showed that the '06 team was seriously flawed. The two hotshot rookies would have made a difference on the PP.

So what is my point? Sakic is old and injured. He has a herniated disc. That is an injury that will affect him the rest of his life.

DON'T REWARD GUYS FOR THE PAST!!!!! It's clear - Iginla should be 2010 captain hands down.

Didn't have time to read what everyone wrote above, but regarding Jarome. IMO he is the huge favorite to be captain for that team in 2010. And in 2014 he'll be 36 years old, you've got to think even then he'll likely be the captain, but he's almost a shoo in imo for 2010...

Johnny Maple Leaf - I nominate you for 2010 Team Canada GM. That is a perfect lineup except I would change the D a bit. Boyle/Pronger as #1 pair, then Weber/Phaneuf as #2, then Niedermayer/Regehr as #3. Green is awesome but still "green" defensively. Bouwmeester is overrated but is a solid #8.

Iggy - C
Lecavalier - A
Pronger - A
Crosby - A >> Publicity stunt (we can all hear the 'Youngest Canadian Player to be an Assistant Captain in the Olympics' record rants )
